Die Engelsburg in Rom wurde als Mausoleum für den römischen Kaiser Hadrian und dessen Nachfolger gebaut. Begonnen wurde der Bau um 133 n. Chr. Mit Beginn des 10 Jhd. gelangte die Anlage in den Besitz des Vatikans. Die folgenden Päpste bauten das Grabmal dann zur Flucht Burg um. Zwischen der Burg und dem Vatikan gibt es eine verborgenen oberirdischen Fluchtweg den unter andern Papst Klemens VII nutzte, als die Truppen Kaiser Karl V Rom 1527 plünderten. (Sacco di Roma) Es wurde unter anderem die folgenden Kaiser dort begraben: Marcus Aurelius Antonius Bassianus (Caracalla), Mark Aurel, Hadria mit seiner Frau, Antonius Pius und seine Frau Faustina. The Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome was built as a mausoleum for the Emperor Hadrian and his successor. The construction began around 133 AD With the beginning of the 10th century, the plant became the property of the Vatican. The following popes built the tomb to be a refuge. Between the Castle and the Vatican, there is a hidden escape way. It was used among others, Pope Clement VII, when the troops Emperor Karl V sacked Rome 1527th (Sacco di roma) The following emperors buried there: Marcus Aurelius Antonius Bassianus (Caracalla), Marcus Aurelius, Hadrian and his wife, Antoninus Pius and his wife Faustina

Rooms could do with being updated - found it odd that there was on only two plug outlets nether of them by the bed. All plug outlets were hanging out the wall broken but luckily they still worked! Staff were really friendly as my girlfriend is gluten free.

Great location! Room clean did not occur till after 4pm (too late!) so we were there taking afternoon breaks and didn’t want the interruptions. Rooftop cocktails were really nice albeit pricey (18 euro for a Mojito!!).
