  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. Pretty complete in terms of facilities and amenities. The fireplace is a great touch, bathroom was beautiful and even board/card games are in supply! We made use of the tennis courts too. A fantastic picturesque view of the mountain areas from the cabins complete its features. Great for a couples getaway where you want to be away from noise. Just come with a small food shop prepared! Only slight pitfall is location is a bit of a drive from the main tourist blue mountains area. But there are plenty of other walks and scenic views in shorter reach, e.g. Hassans Wall, and the town if Lithgow. A detailed guide is provided by the hosts. A car is essential for this venue.

This is a great place to come and stay to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The rooms are cosy and romantic and we had a great time there. Will definitely be back

Relaxing romantic and beautifully peaceful!

We stayed one night at seclusions and were sad to be leaving. We enjoyed a quiet and romantic night in one of the log cabins which we loved so much we thought we could live there. The log fire was nice and warm and added to the cosy feel and the spa bath was just what we needed to relax.

Welcoming from the start, and couldn't be more accomodating with our last minute booking. Clean, and open space, private and seperate from the other guests. Relatively close to town and landmarks.

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay in the Super Cabin. It was so peaceful and luxurious, with only the many kangaroos dropping by to check us out. Julie and Tom are lovely people and great to have a chat to. I would recommend this to anyone needing to get away from it all.
