This is a great little cottage , in a central location . Clare was very helpful , she gave us lots of information about Rye. Her communication was excellent .
Perfect family cottage to explore Rye and surroundings
We spent lovely weekend in Rye staying in this cosy and comfortable cottage in the perfect location on Mermaid Street, close to the restaurants and bakeries on the High Street, and the fabulous Kino cinema.
Perfect location in the middle of the old town with everything in walking distance. Lovely cottage with the feel of a home from home. Will be visiting again!
We loved staying in Mermaid Cottage. An ideal place in the centre of Rye. Rye is full of places to eat and drink and great walks from the doorstep. The cottage was clean and comfortable with a lovely Easter goody bag on our arrival. We are looking forward to returning.
Clare's home is cozy, charming and super clean and tidy. We loved our stay here. Most importantly, Clare is a delight. She was very communicative and extremely flexible and accommodating. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!
The property was lovely and suited our party of 3 adults perfectly. It is situated at the top of the most picturesque street in town, close to all the restaurants and a great base to explore the area. Clare was a wonderful host and the goody bag on arrival was very welcome.
A well kept, historical cottage that gives you an idea of what living in a three story, fairly small, three story cottage is like. Wish we had had sunny weather to enjoy the darling back patio, but we got rain instead.
Clare is very welcoming, and provides a warm and personal service. The cottage is lovely and a perfect cozy home from home. It is thoughtfully furnished and decorated to make the most use of the space and feel like a home instead of a bland characterless 'anywhere'. We have family in the area and they were extremely impressed too when they popped by the cottage!
This was my second time staying in the charming Mermaid cottage, the house is lovely and great for a all group of friends. It is near everything - trains, buses, restaurants and bars and it is on the prettiest street in Rye.
Claire is a wonderful and kind host, she greeted us on arrival, left essentials (wine, coffee, milk) and quickly responded to all our requests - thank you, we really appreciated it!
I predict a third visit
I really enjoyed my stay. The street was busy with tourists during the day but totally quiet at night. The location is the highlight of the town, with short distances to the train station, restaurants, groceries, attractions and so on.
It did not matter to me but the restroom in on the second floor via a narrow stair. The kitchen had most everything I needed (except meals of course.) I really like the outdoor patio although it may only hold up to 4 people.
Glare is a very nice person and helped me get in after I arrived.
Rye is one of those towns like Brugge, Belgium and other towns I have visited, that are in a time warp, not compromised by modern development and sprawl. Touristy but all the nice old towns of this quality are that way. Still, the tourist component is mainly on the weekend.
The close train station allows one to easily get to Hastings, Bexhill and the other nice places along the coast.
I made the right choice.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Mermaid Cottage.During my stay I needed to work, but sitting at the desk overlooking the cobbles of the iconic Mermaid Street made all the difference! Thank you Clare for a great stay, I will be back!
An attractive, well equipped, beautifully sited cottage at the top of Mermaid St., the heart of the old town. Clare was a charming , attentive host who offered excellent advice on activities and restaurants.
We had a lovely stay in this beautiful little cottage. It was well equipped and very comfortable. The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming . The cottage was in the perfect location, such a pretty little street and it was very easy to walk into the centre of Rye.. I would highly recommend a stay here.
We had a fantastic stay in Clare’s beautiful property. The house is beautiful and in the beating heart of historic Rye.
The host herself was unbelievably helpful and kind. It really felt like she wanted us to have the best holiday and went out of her way to ensure it happened!
Would highly recommend.
Clare telephoned before our stay and recommended where to park, and what to see and do. This meant we didn’t waste any holiday time. Mermaid Cottage is really comfortable and centrally located in Rye town, and yet surprisingly quiet during the day and night. The cobbled road is just picture perfect, as if you are living in a film set. Clare’s welcome pack was stunning and quickly energised us after our journey. We would love to stay again.
We had. a great week in this cottage which is perfectly and centrally located in the most lovely and historical street in Rye. The bedrooms are comfy and well - presented with nice quality bedding and curtains. The bathroom is pristine with lots of hot water. Clare was very efficient, friendly and helpful, providing useful information about the property and the surrounding area. We would have rated the cottage 5 overall but we found the seating in the living room quite hard and not very comfortable. Also for anyone who likes to cook on holiday the kitchen is very small and the cooker plates slow to heat up, so the property would best suit those who want to eat out more or have take aways. There is loads to do locally and the house is a great base from which to explore
Despite the storm and the breaking of war we had a lovely stay in this house. Clare was super helpful and the house is lovely with everything you need.
This is a great property right in the heart of Rye. The owner left a lovely welcome pack for us and our daughter and was very helpful with the booking and throughout our stay.
