Relaxing private onsens, beautiful and delicious food, and INCREDIBLE service at this family-owned gem. Tangerine is a star - gracious and helpful with reservations, information, and suggestions to make your stay truly special.
Tangerine is the best host ever! This place is highly recommendable (if you're after a private onsen). Far from where we came from (Kyoto-Takayama), but it is every inch worth it. The room itself, the service, and the dinner/breakfast are on point. If there's a chance to come back to Japan, we will definitely go back.
Beautiful property. Very nice staff and excellent food. Lovely onsen bath in the room and rooftop with beautiful views. Check in was fast. Tangerine is a lovely and wonderful host and friendly. She clearly explained all details of the property. Thank you! Will recommend to others and hope to come back again.
We’ve read the reviews of other people before the visit and we did not know what to expect. We stayed at the property for two nights and we were quite happy with our stay. Dinner and breakfast were very good, private onsens were amazing. Private onsens could use a good scrub (that was the only con for our stay). Access is via a bus from Takayama 1.5h - plenty of walks around.

Disliked: Staff & service
Private onsen tub inside the room is par excellent with the view.
Lady Staff are rude while ordering another meals very unpolite, not accomodating when we arrived after a long trip, property is not accessable to public transpo, private transpo must be needed.
Food is okay, but not worth the stay and price.
Beautiful spot out of the way from the hustle and bustle.
Because of some issues with trains we got to the hotel about 10 minutes before check out finished and dinner started. They took the time to make sure we had everything and made sure we got to dinner on time!
Our room had the inside and outside onsen baths. The view was fantasic and the outside bath could fit both of us, which was a nice bonus.
Breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious and was a fantastic experience. Would visit again :)
Onsen in room, balcony and on roof.
Food was beautifully prepared.
I wish one of the staff spoke more English.

Disliked: Staff & service, room comfort
Great disappointment
They really should have told us they were closed so we could have booked somewhere else. I think we were the only people staying there and the girl working there really gave off a vibe that we were putting her out by making her be there and work. Other than our room the place was freezing. Such a shame as we were looking forward to staying in a royokan. At least the onsens in our room were good but overall not worth the price we paid. Thankfully only there for one night.
