Amazon sunset show in’ off ✨ From Iquitos, Peru, upriver to Leticia, Colombia and the tri-boarder region, we’ve spent the last 10 days getting aquatinted with the Amazon. 💦 We were lucky enough to play with pink river dolphins, unintentionally hold a sloth, and get close to some incredible baby manatees making a recovery. . There were caiman, monkeys, snakes, giant spider, ravenous mosquitoes and lots of trash. It’s been overtly clear that this river, the animals, plant life and people she supports are in dire conditions. We witnessed the impact of drug trafficking, the rise of hallucinogenic tourism (ayahuasca, San Pedro, kambo), and brash introduction consumerism. . The juxtaposition of jungle life and the harsh realities of of human impact make this place complex to absorb. Stunning sunsets alongside absolute poverty. Exotic wildlife in your arms, but they’ll soon die from the stress. People forced to deplete their own resources to survive in an unforgiving society. . Forgive the downer of an experience but this is exactly why we travel. To get uncomfortable and change our outlook on life.
