  • One of our favourite shots from Tawang monastery in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh state, northeast India. 📿Tawang monastery is the largest Buddhist monastery in India and the 2nd largest in the world, only surpassed by Potala palace in Lhasa, Tibet. 💫It's a colossal, self-contained medieval citadel and built across three different levels and harbouring hundreds of resident monks. In this image, you are observing the approach to the main courtyard of the monastery. Jili is leaning against the whitewashed wall of the principal prayer house, which enshrines a huge Buddha statue. How elegant and refined those windows are! To the left are monks’ residential buildings with their distinctive yellow roofs. ✨That graceful edifice in the distance, situated right at the entrance to the main courtyard, is where you will find butter lamps 🔥burning inside a small room on the upper level. There is also a balcony up here where one can indulge in a magnificent panoramic view overlooking Tawang.
