  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

  • The Closed Canyon hike in Big Bend Ranch State Park was completely deserted when we went on a Tuesday in April. We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Amazing. Clean rooms and good location. Price is high for what it is. Bed was extremely firm. That's really the only downside was the bed which too me is pretty important. Overall clean and quiet room. Please upgrade the beds especially if you are going to charge high rates for motel rooms.

There was a gas station/ convenience store right next door and a few food options nearby but the town is really small so options were limited and pricey. Very conveniently located to Big Bend National park though and the room was comfortable.

Clean room and facilities. Old motel that has been renovated, except for the toilet and tub area. Beds were VERY firm, and pillows were VERY soft. Tub needs to be replaced. It was cracked with a hole around the faucet, and the cold water knob was broken and had to be held firmly pushed in to turn. Water pressure in the sink was low. Restaurants nearby. Close to Big Bend National Park entrance. Friendly staff.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and had everything needed for our stay. Easy access to Big Bend National Park. The site offers a breakfast buffet that is a good value. Deli sandwiches are also available in their restaurant during lunch time. Nearby restaurants are also good, but I didn't find any other with a breakfast buffet. Would definitely stay there again.

You’d be forgiven if, upon arriving at this spartan-looking motel, you thought, “Oh, great: Small-town dreck at big-city prices.” But then you meet the helpful and free-spirited staff and enter your Instagrammable little room, sleep in your comfy bed, get refreshed in your spotless (private) bathroom and find almost everything you need at the homey (and homely) onsite store/restaurant. And you step out to see the rugged desert beauty and the star show. And suddenly, you start to appreciate the simplicity and comfort. The mid-upscale price is the cost of enjoying this remote and charming little town and its breathtaking, unspoiled Big Bend environs. Beats the hell out of glamping.

1) Rooms are good and clean 2) Rooms are listed little pricey because of the scarcity of confortable stays in the area 3) Staff is super nice - makes arrangements for Late Check-Ins (after 9 PM) 4) There is a gas station next to this property - makes it a perfect spot to stop before entering Big Bend National Park

The room was okay. The pillows were too thin it made it uncomfortable to sleep throughout the night. The bedding had stains on it and the shower curtain was gross. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was nice that we were able to get a bag of ice each morning for our cooler.

Have made numerous visits to Big Bend and stayed at this property each time. It has been greatly improved and updated. Would like to see the clothes hooks lowered to a height that can easily be reached.

The stay wasn't ideal. Areas of the room were dirty, sink and most importantly the bed. When asked for clean sheets. We were told to come back in the morning. Check in was at 4pm. Therefore made the most of what we can.
