We first discovered Commander's Keep when friends gave the property and the town of Trinity a glowing review. On their recommendation, we spent a week at the house in late August 2012. After being thoroughly impressed the first time, we returned in early June 2014 for another memorable vacation. What a treat: perched on a hilltop, and with its waterfront vantage point, the house offers unobstructed views of the harbour, the ocean and the town. From the outside, the house fits perfectly in the town’s plan to protect its historic character, but inside, it offers modern, open concept main floor with living room, dining room, and fully appointed kitchen. Upstairs, three spacious bedrooms allow you to retire in comfort. Finally, there are luxurious bathrooms for everyone. On sunny days, walk to the shops or restaurants in Trinity, take in a play at the Rising Tide Theatre, drive to the Dungeon Provincial Park, see the puffins and cellars in Elliston, visit the site where the Random Passage TV series was filmed and learn about the history of the region. Don’t forget the lighthouse in Bonavista, especially when the seascape is crowded with icebergs. On rainy or foggy days at the house, enjoy the books, games, DVDs or the excellent sound system. Don’t forget your camera: the vistas inspire every photographer. Finally, plan another visit: we did and are not regretting it.
