“The overall status of the hotel is nice, we arrived quite later at 1:00am, but the housekeeping starts knocking doors from 9:30 all the way to 10:40 (about 4 times) to ask people to check out... they really did what their boss told...”

“I needed an overnight stay en route to scotland . Cartref was easy to get to from M6 and felt clean and cosy. Traffic was a little noisy ( I had to open window due to heatwave) but the host thoughtfully supplied earplugs as well as various other "extras " for myself and the dog. Shared bathroom was clean and easily accessible. I would recommend Cartref if visiting Carlisle or just passing through and i would certainly consider staying here again if in the area.”

“A very nice place to stay. The room was big and the hotel sat in nice grounds. The meal I had was also fantastic (the lamb).”

“This hotel is old and tired. When I arrived, I was informed that the elevator was out for four weeks minimum. Since I had three bags and a pram plus limited mobility, I was very upset. To the staff's credit, they took me up in the service elevator but I still had to walk up and down many stairs everytime I left my room. This hotel is horribly noisy either from the bar next door or the roof beer garden across the alley and the glass bin filling and emptying is so loud!!! The carpet is torn and……

“I stayed for one night and appreciated having an affordable place close to the station, with plenty of shops nearby. I was also happy to find a kettle with coffee and tea, which made for a fresh and pleasant morning. The only downside was that there was no hand soap or shampoo provided, which would have made the stay more comfortable. Overall, I’m satisfied with what I received for the price and happy with my stay”

“Breakfast was fresh choice of way you like your eggs cooked. Room is what you would expect, so quiet and relaxing.. Owner of the establishment could not do enough for us, so helpful, let us know when the bus times into Carlisle were, and, where local shops were. Definitely stay again ”

“The staff were some of the best we have ever met and met our needs perfectly. They ensured we had a room that was suitable and went the extra mile to achieve this so a big thank you. The property is in the process of being updated but this didn't affect our stay except perhaps to see how well it appears to be going and I'm sure when this is finished they will have a hotel to be proud of. They have only owned this hotel for about 6 months and it is obvious they are making huge efforts to update……

“The 3 course meal was al a carte status, excellent made by chef/ owner. Lovely bedrooms and v clean and owners very welcoming. Lovely views and walks nearby. For children the wildlife park is worth a visit nearby. ”

“Very nice staff. Straight forward public house atmosphere. Beer tasting and band playing downstairs well into the evening, but not a significant issue. Nice breakfast and really beautiful surroundings.”
