Amazing Crab Shack
Staying at the Crab Shack was wonderful. It is so beautiful, simple and peaceful. Carlisle has thought of everything and was so helpful. We loved our daily excursions but loved coming "home" to the Shack. A reminder to pause and slow down! Simple but Significant....

Always a Pleasure!
We come down to the Neck regularly and love staying at the Shack; Carlisle is always proactive in making sure we have everything we need. It’s just the right size for a nice retreat and ideally located near all of the great things to do and places to eat. And you can’t beat the view! We’ll be back soon!

Awesome location.
The Crab Shack is perfectly located near the "triangle" of White Stone, Irvington and Kilmarnock. The fireplace is great and everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided. It is a unique property and well worth the drive from FL.

Relaxation at it's best!
This little cottage packs a huge punch! Beautiful sunrises over Carters Creek, comfortable furnishings, convenient to shops and restaurants. The gas fireplace was nice in the evenings, along with our music played through the bluetooth speaker. We never even watched TV!

Great Stay at the Crab Shack
What a hidden gem! First, Carlisle was very responsive and helpful. The "Shack" is just as pictured on the site. We had everything we needed. The outside space is wonderful! My husband worked from there and the WiFi was good. There are lots of good restaurants nearby, you just have to Google them. We cannot wait to return. The place was clean and you would never know dogs had stayed. Our dog loved it! Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven on earth.

Awesome Relaxing Get-away
We stayed for a long weekend in April. The colors on the water in the morning were amazing. We set the coffee maker to have our morning java ready for sitting on the dock and watching the sunrise. The property is exactly as advertised and pictured. The owner is great at communicating everything you need to know.

Peace and tranquility
We enjoyed the cabin and the setting very much. We woke up to the beautifully colored sky upon sunrise. The cabin is very comfortable and attractive. The patio and the docks are a great place to unwind. Being from Midwest we relished fresh oysters and local seafood. Our dog ran around on the nearby beaches. My husband biked around as bikes were available on the patio. We also saw a couple of bald eagles around the property (thank you for the binoculars on site). Would love to come back in the summer to kayak and swim.

The Crab Shack - Great Stay!
My wife and I stayed at the Crab Shack between March 10-12 as a quick getaway from home. This was a perfect spot to relax and unwind. The property is comfy cozy and is easily accessible. We will likely be back as long as we're welcome!

A special place
The Crab Shack is truly a special place! The home is lovingly restored and decorated; extremely comfortable for lounging, working, and eating. The small kitchen may lack an oven, but was surprisingly well-stocked and you could make just about anything. The property is lovely and quiet, a neighbor on one side and an old oyster house on the other. The house was warm and cozy with a gorgeous gas fireplace for our winter trip- look forward to coming back in the summer to enjoy the creek!

Home away from home but better!
The Crab Shack is just as the photos show, only better in person. There’s a water view from every room of the house (except the bathroom) and despite the small kitchen, it’s easy to prepare a meal or a snack. Carlisle and Mary take pride in their property and are making improvements all the time (not that many are needed!) I’m looking forward to new outdoor furniture (hopefully) on a future visit. Enjoy the ambience, the quiet, the natural beauty, the aesthetics, but please, let’s keep it a secret :-)

Nicholas Sparks Worthy!
I knew I would love the Crab Shack when I saw the VRBO listing but nothing compares to the serenity and beauty of being there! The cottage was just perfect! I truly enjoyed walking barefoot on the wooden floors, sleeping with the blinds pulled up to gaze at the lights on the water and adjusting the lights to fit my mood! Everything was as pictured in the listing and I had everything I needed! The outdoor space was so enjoyable that I didn’t even read my book! I just keep looking around! And, why take a shower indoors when you can take one out?! So someone call Nicholas Sparks….his next book setting will be in Weems, Va!

Images Tell the Story
Unlike many vacation "ads" the pictures in this one accurately portray what the place looks like. You really do have that dock. You really are that close to the water. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars all the way were a couple of quirks that I wish I had known about. Every room is on a different level. It took a while to get used to and on the first night there, I crashed up an unexpected step into the bathroom. It is small and there are no closets. We stayed 5 days and we are used to living in a one bedroom open plan apt but it did get a bit close. Thankfully, there is plenty of porch room for sitting and reading. And the outdoor shower was great for cleaning off the salt from swimming in the river. As the owner says, Do be careful about the oyster shells but they were easy to maneuver after the first outing.

Hi Jackie, Mary and I always try to exceed our guest’s expectations and we’re sorry we were unable to do so in your case. Although we do include the fact there are steps in cottage on our listing, perhaps we can find a way to flag each of them for future guests. We do include two luggage racks and two brackets that have two hangers each in addition to the coat rack at the entrance. We do not have room for or a plan to add any closet space. Perfect Getaway
My husband and I have been visiting this area of Virginia for the last 15 years. This is our second time staying at the Crab Shack and we absolutely love it! It is the perfect place to get away from it all. The cottage is clean and cozy and has the most amazing views. Water access is great for sup's and kayak's. There is a nice covered porch to read a book and watch the boats go by. Many good restaurants and things to do in the area. This is a unique property, can't wat to go back.

A FOR SURE COME BACK
This is so beautiful. Everything very comfortable. We crabbed off of doc and grandson said he is ready to go back. We eat on the covered porch. There are some very nice eating places. The view was really nice. The only one thing I could ask for is a full size frig on porch to keep more ice and food in. But there are two small frigs. We where able to grill and steam the crabs on the bbq grill. We will be back:)

Wonderful Time!
River time doesn’t get any better than at the Crab Shack! The Shack was clean and has everything you need for a great time. From drinking coffee on the pier to cocktails under the covered porch, it doesn’t get much better! The water is deep at the dock if you bring a boat or a fishing pole. We can’t wait to go back!
