Pros: A good location for the seafront (great for walking the dogs) and the local pubs and eateries - there's an excellent bakery 1 min away. The facilities are good too, with fast wifi and two TVs to stop family squabbles. One has apps like Netflix and YouTube too. The yard in front is reasonably private and quiet, and good for sitting out with a glass of wine if the weather's good. Good for storing and charging the mobility scooter one of our party had. The beds were comfortable, quiet and dark - there's very little external noise here. The kitchen is very well equipped if you want to cook.
It's a great atmospheric old house.
Cons: The kitchen/downstairs (converted scullery or cellar?) had a low ceiling when walking from upstairs that I cracked my head on a couple of times (and I'm only 5' 8"), and for some reason it's artexed just to maximise the pain - it should have a cushioned Mind Your Head sign! The downstairs key doesn't work from the inside (there are bolts though).
The parking space is pretty tight too, even to manoeuvre my compact Honda Jazz into, but at least you're free of the on road parking nightmare that is Whitby.
Overall it has it's niggles, but if we needed 3 bedrooms and dog friendly, in a great location Hope Cottage would be on our list of places to look at.
