"It’s a nice place but could do with some decent money being spent on some areas. We stayed in the White House which was lovely and you could feel the history. Room was spotless but the outside is a bit shabby. Bar area was nice but too small and quite pricey. Bar food finished at 5 and the restaurant menu was very small. The other restaurant was closed for a private function so we ended up having a takeaway. Weren’t given any information about amenities on site or about breakfast etc and there was no literature in the room. Staff were very friendly though. Grounds are nice but again need a bit of extra maintenance. This place could be spectacular"

"Parking easy & a lot of spaces. Kingsize bed & bedding very comfy. Clean & in relatively good decor aside from water stains on ceiling in bedroom area. Good facilities - iron & ironing board, a long mirror as well as table one, a safe, a fridge & a hairdryer. Bathroom compact but clean & well thought out with a bath & powerful overhead shower. Grout immaculate. Toiletries from the White company. Towels white & in good condition. I liked the references to Henry VIII & Anne Boleyn in the bedroom & bar area downstairs. & the bar area looked very welcoming. Breakfast quite basic, but plentiful & perculated coffee was nice. However our omelettes were overcooked, my husband got cheese & tomato instead of tomato & onion which he asked for & the toast was a bit burnt. Unfortunately it was just lack of general maintenance & the breakfast that let it down. E.G. The room was very cold. It was not until morning that we noticed that the main window by the bed doesn't shut completely as no clip for the latch on the handle to lock into! 2 of the lamps in the bedroom didn't work so had to ask for new lightbulbs. When I asked for new bulbs, the staff member had to come and test them himself before he would believe me! Mirror in the bathroom was meant to light but didn't work. Aforementioned water stains on ceiling. Blind on small window broken & Blind on ceiling window damaged so couldn't open. Only 2 sachets of coffee and 3 teabags. If all resolved, I would have scored higher."

"We had a good stay at Old Thorns. Stayed because attending a wedding. Quiet and spacious rooms. Exceptionally clean. Very good customer service throughout."
