Very nice hotel conveniently located near the train station. The breakfast is fantastic with a generous portion. Good service.

Good choice of hotel
Location is good as it is very close to the railway station. Room is tidy and clean. Breakfast is good.

Staff great, dinner not recommended
We waited a bit for check in, about 20 min I think. Nobody at the counter at all. You just need to wait until someone come. This uncertainty really makes me uncomfortable as travelling all the way there, I really in need of a place to take a rest and refreshed. The dining is highly recommended by the staff. I would say the breakfast is good but not for dinner, overpriced and can't say average at all. It says the breakfast is from 8-11. But when I'm there around 10, most of the food are gone, which is a bit disappointing. But the staff there are very nice n friendly.

Good location but hard to find the entrance
The outlook of the hotel is a 100% restaurant. It's hard to find the hotel entrance which is just a small door at the other side of the restaurant main door. The room is hot, without air conditioner. But the food of the dining room is very good.

The restaurant is excellent with great food and a relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was equally good. Room was spotless with plenty of hot water and strong shower. All the usual extras with tea and a coffee machine and a couple of decent chairs to sit in. Bed equally comfortable. A pleasant place to stay and relax. Recommend a trip to Holehird Gardens which is just up the road 🙂

A good place to stay
Very pleasant couple of days at the hotel. The room was warm and very clean. The food for the first night meal was excellent. We had the rump of lamb which was tender, pink and delicious although, personally I would have appreciated some green vegetables with it rather than mashed potato and mashed swede, which were too similar in taste and texture. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. All in all a good place to say.

Good hotel
Pleasant stay. Clean rooms that were serviced everyday. Staff helpful. A couple of the rooms are very noisy, if the window is open, with early morning traffic. 6am. Lorry's emptying bins full of glass etc. But rooms on the other side would be fine. I'd stay there again but choose your room.

Good breakfast but not worth the money
During the check-in process we were offered to dine in and that the table would be reserved, however, we decided to eat out so declined the offer. Later, we changed our mind after couple hours so we called the hotel restaurant but was told the place was fully booked and the next available would be at 8:30pm. Upon returning to the hotel around that time, the restaurant was half empty. The standup shower stall had blackened spots up and down the tile wall between the grooves, mold. The room was extremely tight nowhere to put two carry on suitcases.

Sleepless and cold night
We booked a one night stay at The Lamplighter. We arrived early evening and the building looked well presented and well lit, so easy to find. The staff were welcoming and check in was organised and straight forward. We took our bags up to the room. The room was clean, tidy and appeared to meet our needs. We then left to go to the high street for something to eat. On returning to our room, we found it was really cold. The radiator was barely on and the temperature dial would not work on the radiator. When closing the blinds i noticed that there was a substantial draft coming from the windows. We noticed that the duvet and pillows were very thin so didnt really help keep warm or comfy. The bed was really uncomfortable. We found it was hard and struggled to get comfortable enough to have a restful nights sleep. The bathroom was really cold so was really off putting to use the shower facilities, therefore we opted to just get dressed and shower at our next destination. Breakfast was well presented, tasty and there was plenty of choice. The only thing i could complain about was that a member of staff attended the table to ask if we were still eating, baring in mind staff had just seen me take a bite of toast. Staff then preceeded to ask if they could clear the plates whilst i was still eating. I find this the height of bad manners and really bad customer service. I did speak with staff on checking out about the issues re the room being cold and uncomfortable but to no avail.

Dear Samantha, Thank you for taking the time to write about your experiences whilst at The Lamplighter and was delighted to read of the positive elements to which you refer in your review. I am however so sorry for the issue that you faced with the heating in your room. My colleague did feedback immediately the points that you raised on check-out and I went up to the room to check. In the first instance the window was not properly closed, but the room was approximately 21 degrees and the radiator is very large for the size of room and was certainly hot to the touch as was the towel rail in the bathroom. Our beds are only 18 months old and are Hypnos, with matrass protectors, quilted toppers and the pillows and duvets are of a similar standard, age and quality. I actually have the same bed and accessories on my bed at home. That said I completely respect your opinion but this does highlight that everyone is difficult and I am truly sorry that the bed was not to your liking. Dawn, the lady that looked after you at breakfast that morning would also like me to extend her apologies for any inconvenience that she may have caused as this was never her intention and she was working on her own. Please once again accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused and I am only sorry that you did not bring this up immediately on your return as we would have been able to ensure that the window was fully secured and place a portable heater in the room. I can only hope that this point that we will be able to welcome you back in the future in order that we may endeavour to redeem ourselves in your eyes and if I may be of any further assistance to you in the meantime, then please do not hesitate to contact me. Great Week with dogs in September
Travelled with my wife and two lurcher dogs, excellent stay from check in to check out, room good, lots of space and biggest bathroom ever, ate in the lounge area for breakfast and dinner with dogs alongside us, breakfast great and quality of produce excellent, dinners very filling and one of the best cheeseboards (to my taste). Clean rooms, comfortable and very dog friendly, would recommend no problem and would look to visit again.
