For a four-star hotel, I would have expected a much higher standard of service, cleanliness and facilities. Unfortunately, the experience fell short. The location is undoubtedly the biggest selling point. Situated on a popular road with plenty of great cafés and restaurants nearby, it’s also just a short walk from the beach and well positioned compared with other hotels in the area. However, cleanliness and housekeeping were disappointing. The communal hallways were often dirty, and my room hadn’t been cleaned properly before arrival, with dust and even false eyelashes left behind. The advertised king bed was actually two singles pushed together. The linen was nice quality, but wasn’t changed daily, and housekeeping overall felt very standard, lacking the attention to detail you’d expect. The pool had recently undergone work but was in good condition during our stay and a nice place to relax. The gym, however, was underwhelming, with weights only up to 10kg, two running machines and several other pieces of equipment not working. Overall, I’d rate this as a three-star hotel with additional facilities rather than a genuine four-star experience. If you’re considering staying here, I’d only recommend it for its location and proximity to the beach. Otherwise, you’d arguably be better off staying in the CBD or Surry Hills in a much nicer hotel and commuting in. The location is great, but the overall standard doesn’t justify the rating.
