On the whole we really loved the casa, the neighbors added to our understanding of the Pueblo and its rich history. We enjoyed walking the lanes, chatting with the librarian and taking a walking tour. The casa was very well located for our adventures in Northern NM. The house itself was well appointed, spacious kitchen, beautiful western view from our bedroom. Unique and peaceful.

Needs cleaning and improved management, quality control by absentee owner.
Absentee owner does not inspect regularly, many things needed repair or maintenance- oven did not work, many lights needed new bulbs or troubleshooting, furniture needed Re arranging for bedroom doors to close. There is zero printed or written info at the property. Shower tub is very dangerous ingress egress, weird design of steps. Parking is totally weird and you have to ask the all day drinking-beer neighbors to move their cars to get in and out. I’m a 30 year resident of a more traditional northern NM village than Abiquiu, not an out of state tourist. None of these issues are cultural, rather just a function of passive lazy management. If they pay their cleaners more money , maybe they can spend more time making the unit proper for guests.

It was a really nice house with everything we needed and then some. And easy drives to lots of places. As other people have said, it's a little difficult to find and parking is tight but we would definitely return.

Incredible place
If you're looking for a remote getaway, this is the perfect place for you. The inside of this home is more beautiful than the pictures convey, and Abiquiu is gorgeous as well. Check in and check out were easy, but as other folks mentioned I would definitely recommend getting there during the daylight hours because it is hard to find the first time. Parking is tight but we had no trouble once we got used to it. The neighbors were very friendly, we ended up chatting for a while and one of them gave us fresh fruit from his orchard. I definitely recommend saying hi and introducing yourself if you stay here. Overall, we had a wonderful time and I could not recommend this spot more. Hopefully we will be back sometime to visit again!

Well you get what you pay for! Arrived at night so no matter how good the instructions are we weren’t going to find the place - had to be guided in via the cleaning crew. We were gone early and back late every day we were there. Getting in and out of the driveway to and from the assigned parking was atrocious. Seemed like the neighbors intentionally parked in such a way as to make entering and leaving the driveway a real hassle (we have a compact car). Our assigned parking had a overgrown shrub that scraped our car and got in the way of passengers getting in and out. House interior had live daddy long leg spiders and beetles. Awkward tub and shower combo that was cumbersome getting in and out of (an accident waiting to happen). Toilet is awkward for a man to use in stand up mode. Driveway neighbor has some sort of hoarding thing going on so his yard and driveway are full of his “Assets” causing his car to partially block the driveway making for entry and exit issues.

An absolute recommend
My brother and I really enjoyed this beautiful adobe home. It's located atop a hill in the heart of Abiquiu, which makes for beautiful sunsets and stargazing - especially from the courtyard. We found the next door neighbors to be incredibly welcoming and helpful. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen large and well-equipped, and the bathroom felt more like a spa. The casita is a very short walk up the road from Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Georgia O'Keefe's home and studio and a short drive to Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu Lake, and the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, among other places of interest. As a plus, the casita is less than an hour's drive from Bandelier National Monument and Valles Caldera National Preserve. We will definitely be back.

Best Way to Visit Abiquiu
Gorgeous in pictures, even better in person. I love that it has (clearly) been around for 100+ years but is still being loved and maintained. All the beauty of an NM adobe with the renovations to make it comfortable. For future guests: wifi can be spotty, bedrooms lie between patio and bathroom/kitchen so privacy is better for 2 than 4, and the one air conditioning unit struggles to cool the whole house, so close interior doors at night. Nevertheless, for the price, location, and charm, this property is fantastic! A rare treat in the area that I can't wait to visit again.

I really love finding places like this. It's a place with character and soul. It was everything needed and more. Parking may seem tricky the first attempt, but is easier each time. The immediate neighbors seemed polite, quiet and kept to themselves. I would definitely return.

Sweet spot
This home was even more special than it appeared in the listing. It has beautiful touches and is the perfect sort of rustic and comfortable. Sadly we had to go a day later than planned due to some personal issues. I wish we could have had our full 2 nights. It definitely was tricky to find, but the owner really makes a big effort to clarify, including a map and detailed directions. I wouldn't want to arrive for the first time in the dark though! There is no way around this, it is just how the neighborhood is. There was a cute little girl outside when we arrived that told us she thought we were in the right place. We brought a dog with us and he was welcomed, but I will warn you that there are lots of cats roaming around outside so if your dog is anti-cat, you will need to be careful. The morning brought a nice surprise of a funny friendly horse at the gate next to where we parked. I loved all of the options for things to do in the area that were thoughtfully left by the owners. The listings and the maps were helpful because I did have trouble with the internet - it seemed to work best if I was sitting at the kitchen table but it was spotty. Internet wasn't something we were expecting or needing so no big deal. I also live in a small town with limited options so I am used to that. Another tip: they ask you to through the sheets in the washer and dryer before you leave but I had to search and search for the appliances. I was almost going to call the housekeeper when my friend found them in a closet in the bathroom. It wasn't obvious to me that it was a closet because of the mirrored doors but maybe it would be to normal people, so that is just an fyi. if you need All in all, just a wonderful sweet spot, rustic and an authentic experience of the area. It was a perfect getaway to share with a friend and I hope to eventually return!

Wonderful slice of Abiquiu
This was a great place for a little getaway with friends. Plenty of space for 3 girls and close to everything you need in Abiquiu. The kitchen is stocked with supplies and essentials, and the fire pit on the patio was a bonus and used each night to wind down. We were even surprised with some Angry Orchard in the fridge! The neighbor, their horse and cats were very friendly. Wonderfully priced for the accomodations provided. The huge bathroom was wonderful for all us girls. The only difficulty is the tub/shower. It can be hard to reach the shower knobs, and being conscious of your surroundings when getting in and out is recommended. We also didn't have the correct wifi login and password, but we didn't mind too much. Parking can be tricky, and trying to back out is even trickier. Be aware of your surroundings, the neighbors, and animals so you don't hit anything. Use your friends to help guide the car. Otherwise this was a fantastic place to stay and I would recommend it to friends visiting the area.

Loved the place
We ended up loving this place! Neighborhood was safe, neighbors were nice ; only down side was that there was no view except the neighbors’ homes & yards—which were somewhat unattractive . Outdoor enclosed patio was lovely, especially in the cool evenings. Interior was beautiful and plenty of space with everything we needed. This stay was perfect for us since it was exactly what we needed for a central location for hiking to Ghost Ranch, Ojo caliente springs, Bandelier, visited Santa Fe —- all approximately 1 hour in any direction. Parking was not optimum. Steep unpaved hill to arrive should be described just so guests can be prepared. Manager was so kind to us, too! Great kitchen and spacious bathroom. Wifi / internet great! We would definitely stay here again!

One could easily pass by the real Abiquiu if you just stayed on the highway. But the real town is up the hill — the museum, the church, the real people in their humble abodes. We appreciated this diversity . The home itself is old and unique and well furnished and supplied. The soaking tub was great!! The artwork a surprise are Avery turn.

Relaxation and Exploration
This property and Abiquiu were a wonderful base for exploring the area, and the house offered the opportunity to veg out and relax. The house had all the amenities I would want and need: various ways to make coffee, a crockpot, utensils, linens, washer/dryer, large fridge, electric stove, microwave, etc., but no dishwasher. It was nice being “local” and in a community rather than in a motel. The property manager was very welcoming and helpful the one time I needed something done in the house. No problem with check-in. House was clean and in good order when I arrived. The lockbox worked. A bit of a challenge locating the house. Arrive during daylight. If I were to be in this area again, I would rent this house.

Delightful
The property is a great place to experience authentic Abiquiu, with warm, friendly neighbors and access to all the wonders of Northern New Mexico. The house itself is historic on the outside and modern on the inside, with a complete kitchen and a huge bathroom. The many rooms offer individual places for relaxation, conversation, or solitude, and the outside patio is perfect for a morning coffee or an afternoon glass of wine. The streets in Abiquiu are maze-like (part of its charm), but if you follow the directions you'll have no trouble getting there. It's on our list of properties to return to.

An intimate experience in Abiquiu
The house inside is fairly comfortable. We did have issues with cooling it down as the little air units couldn't be regulated to work cooler. It was hot! There is a little enclosed patio which we did not use because it was so hot there with walls all around that obstructed a gorgeous view. The outdoor space was limited to a bench at the front door overlooking the neighbors driveway. And the bench was in the sun so it didn't allow for an escape from the heat. The housekeeper was lovely and the owner was easy to get ahold of. Unfortunately, the pictures don't really include the outdoor views which are very impacting. The house was well stocked with everything you would need. Regulating the heat was a primary issue.

Abiquiu is Beautiful
Such a lovely and unique property. I checked in with Brenda’s daughter and she was very nice. I would, however, have appreciated knowing how close the neighbors are. They were nice, just very close. Abiquiu is truly magical but I was moderately uncomfortable staying up the hill by myself with neighbors on top of me, only one way out and very hard to see after dark. I had a hard enough time getting my small car out of the driveway in daylight. With so many warnings and signs about where not to park, maybe a sign that indicates what spot IS for visitors? And a good light out there? Plenty of other people have loved this place, and for good reasons. All people involved were great and the building is just beautiful and very nicely appointed. Just not for me. Thank you. Take care.

A 'grounding' experience.
We learned here - about history, about time, and about space. It was a 'grounding' experience for us. We feel at home in the American Southwest, yet didn't understand the complex history of this region. Thanks to John at the Bosshard's Gallery, we learned much. Additionally, we are river rats, historical curious-ors, and hiking/backpacking devotees, so we were able to 'scout' a future Chama river trip (because of damn upgrades, it will be a few years in the future), learn about native slavery in the region, and hike a 15 mile in-and -on the Los Ojitos trail... that could be expanded to further adventures should the need present itself. Northern New Mexico adventures are a MUST. We had planned to read and write and rest... yet were pulled into the resonance of the magnaminity of this place, and just were. And were grateful.

The house was wonderful. It looks exactly as described. Very well decorated and only footsteps away from a beautiful view of the New Mexico wilderness. The NM winter is harsh, but the house kept us cozy and warm. We didn't even need to use the stoves, as the heating system was more than accurate. The shower and tub were heavenly. Couldn't take enough bubble baths. The property manager and owner were very responsive and easy to communicate with. The manager made sure we had firewood and was always available. There was a tiny miscommunication with the cleaning crew, but Brenda made sure it was handled immediately (literally, within minutes). She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, even recommending some good places to eat. She was amazing! The neighbor was very nice, also. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking to experience Abiquiu authentically. It was cozy, clean, romantic, and peaceful. Thank you for a great vacation. I'd certainly stay here again!

Gorgeous old Adobe with recent and thoughtful upgrades. Owner and property manager were wonderful to work with. Location was perfect between hiking at Ghost Ranch and soaking at Ojo. Bode’s store is close and been there awhile. Only knock is the setting, which is kind of in an old compound-didn’t feel exactly welcomed by neighbors. It helps to have lived in No. NM for decades-but folks not familiar with our ways might be put off by this.

Charming Home in the Village
The homeowner has skillfully outfitted this old adobe structure with modern amenities. Good wifi connection. Great kitchen with all you could possibly need. Nice matching dishes, glasses, towels - no mish mash of items. Some lovely rustic antique furniture along with good modern mattresses. Lots of good original art on the walls. Nice enclosed patio with grill and fire pit plus chopped wood. It was very warm the nights I was there and difficult to cool down the rooms. The housekeeper was lovely and welcoming. As another reviewer said, it’s a shame there’s no outdoor space to enjoy the remarkable setting. One caution —- it’s VERY difficult to find after dark. The area is pitch black, even with full moon, so be sure you know where you’re going. I truly appreciate the artful little oasis the homeowner has created, it is a shame the neighbors do not share his ‘pride of place’.

We loved this casita on the hill in the village of Abiquiu, right next to the neighbors. Excellent views; great value for the price. We enjoyed going to Mass at San Tomás El Apostol, then walking up the hill with one of the neighbors (artist Charlie Carrillo). Would be great if someday you could figure out a way to give the back bedroom direct access to the bathroom (thru courtyard maybe?) and also add one hook for a hand towel in the bathroom.
