This is an absolutely beautiful, serene place to stay, you are fully immersed in nature. The lodges are so comfortable and stylish, we slept so well. The food was absolutely delicious. The customer service was excellent. The rooms were spotless, with fabulous lake views. The swimming pool was clean and welcoming in the heat. Lots of activities on offer, you are really cared for.

Magnifique hotel

Magnifique hôtel avec une vue imprenable sur le lac Kivu. Le lodge est splendide et Eric et Philippe ont été tres accueillants et serviables pendant notre sejour. Je recommande très vivement.

The road to the facility is horrible, the facility is noisy, especially in the morning hours, the staff is rude, breakfast had spoiled ingredients, and I was charged for items I did not consume.

Die Zimmer/Häuser sind riesig, auch Familien haben mehr als genug Platz. Highlight ist die Außendusche, vor allem und gerade auch bei schlechterem Wetter. Der Blick über den See, herrlich. Toll fanden wir auch, dass man das Essen an einer langen Tafel einnimmt und so Menschen aus aller Welt kennenlernt. Philippe ist ein toller Gastgeber, der uns viele tolle Tipps für unsere weitere Reise durch Ruanda gegeben hat. Die Tageswanderung mit Philippe als Guide durch die umliegenden Dörfer mit anschließender Bootsfahrt zurück zur Lodge fanden wir wir ganz besonders toll.

The property is lovely. Perched on the hillside, you feel like you’re on top of the world every day at breakfast with panoramic view of Lake Kivu. Our cabin was the closest to the lake which offered us unobstructed views from our patio which was the perfect spot to read or watch an incoming rain storm. It was a bit more of a hike uphill to breakfast and dinner but it was worth it. Plus we were also closer to the pool which was really one of the deciding factors why we picked Umutozo. You also have to take an outdoor shower while you’re there! Food was tasty and very fresh, we said hi to the on-site animals a couple of times. We enjoyed chatting with other guests and the owner Philippe at meal times. The staff was also great including Olivier who took us on our excursion to Napoleon Island and was very engaging to talk to on the boat ride there. I do recommend having a 4wd vehicle since there is a substantial amount of driving on unpaved roads required to reach the property. Very much enjoyed our time spent here.
