Resorts in Cantón Carrillo

"I honestly don’t understand how this resort is rated a 4-star property. This was the most disappointing travel experiences I’ve had. There is essentially no WiFi anywhere on the resort, which is unacceptable in this day and age. The rooms were extremely run down. The TV remotes didn’t work, we were constantly dealing with fire ants, and there were basically no standard amenities — no mini fridge, no iron, no coffee maker, nothing. It felt very bare and poorly maintained. The towels were disgusting. What were supposed to be white towels were gray, stained, old, and rough. Completely unacceptable from a cleanliness standpoint. The biggest issue was the food. The resort advertises multiple restaurants, a snack bar, but in reality, there was one buffet serving the same food every single day and it was terrible. My wife wouldn’t eat it, and even my 4 & 5 year-old kids refused the food. We basically survived on soggy French fries for an entire week. That alone should tell you everything. For comparison, I’ve stayed at all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic (multiple times), & Saint Martin every one of them was miles better than this place. This resort is run down and on the verge of going out of business. I genuinely cannot understand how it qualifies as a 4-star resort. Costa Rica itself is beautiful, the people are wonderful but I strongly recommend staying somewhere else To any Americans reading this: stay clear of Condovac La costa."

"From the start of our stay the staff was incredible, from offering up travel tips and explaining all that the hotel has to offer. Emmanuel at reception went the extra mile to make our stay unforgettable. The property is beautiful and the animals of Costa Rica are your neighbors. We saw spider monkeys among the mango trees on the property, and heard the howlers as well as the many bird species all across the resort. The views from our bay view room were incredible, offering beautiful sunsets and a snapshot of the whole bay. Occidental offered an amazing stay for our first trip to Costa Rica!"

"Staff were very helpful and property/gardens/beaches were extremely well maintained. The restaurants were excellent with a wide range to choose from. Our excursions were on point with amazing guides. I would definitely recommend this RIU Resort to everyone (family, friends etc)."

"It was wonderful to have a few pool loction choices. You could select a quiet area or sit near the swim up bar and be in the center of all the action. The staff made every effort to meet your needs and keep everyone entertained. "

"Our family just spent a week at the Suitree, which our daughter selected as our base in Costa Rica. We are so glad she did. Staying in such a unique, beautiful property added an additional level of enjoyment to the trip. The property is impeccable. Absolutely stunning and impeccably clean. The attention to detail was outstanding. The treehouses are gorgeous and interesting. Ours also featured a hot tub, which was a lovely place to hang out after dinner. We had selected the full board option, which turned out to be a good choice because the location is very remote. It would be difficult to leave the property for meals. We had to miss some meals while we were out on excursions, and were always sorry to do so, because the food was SO GOOD (although we wished there were more vegan options on the menu). We did not have a car, but had booked excursions with a service who picked us up from the hotel, and we booked two excursions through the hotel, so transportation was included in the price. Drivers from the hotel picked us up and brought us back to the airport. You will not find more attentive, kinder staff anywhere. They were always ready to help and eager to make sure our stay was wonderful. The Suitree is in a very remote location and you have to travel a minimum of 1/2 hour on difficult roads to get pretty much anywhere. This added to the charm and returning to our treehouse after a long day of activities was always such a pleasure. Pura Vida <3"

"Our review as a Canadian couple in our late 30's, no kids: What we liked: - The beach was fabulous, felt safe and secure to leave items unattended - Small boutique feel, quick walk to the restaurant and beach. Nice atmosphere and well kept. - Monkey sightings outside our door, and other cool wild life on the premise. - Friendly staff, clean rooms. - Locals gather on the beach for picnics on the holiday we were there, which made for a nice atmosphere What we didn't like: - Rooms were a little dated (beds not very comfortable, couch stained, old smart TVs not compatible with streaming apps) - Rooms didn't feel very private. - Rooms didn't feel worth what we paid. - Pool very small and can quickly fill up with 2 - 3 families. Tended to attract families with little ones - Food at the restaurant was good, although dining options are limited and the restaurant expensive (example two desserts and a drink came to $60 CAD). Overall our stay was average. It seems you're really paying for the location/beach access, as opposed to a high end hotel experience that one might expect when paying over $500 CAD a night. Food options are limited aside from the hotel, although there is another restaurant down the beach that we enjoyed. Other meals we bought to store in our room or drove into Playa Del Coco, which is about 15 min away. Highly recommend having your own vehicle if staying here."
