  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

As an FYI, Even though it states they accept service animals, they do not. I booked for my mother through Expedia and she has a service dog. She has a letter from her doctor and the dog is trained. She was turned away quite rudely being told, "we do not accept pets." Her dog is not a pet. It is more akin to a medical device than a pet. Would you take a blind person's cane? A handicapped person's wheelchair? Than why list service dog's permissible then turn away my elderly mother? Absolutely inexcusable. Disgusting. I called to investigate only to be told the same thing: no pets allowed, and put on hold for 10 minutes. Will never recommend.

The bathroom was dirty when we checked in. I talked to the front desk guy about it and he said those are stains. I had to go buy cleaning products and clean it myself. It was terible I don’t recommend it to anyone!!

In their property page, they state they have a gym and a pool, of which both weren't available! They advertise that breakfast is free, but there is no warm food, only cereal, coffee, toast & oatmeal. We had to change rooms immediately upon arrival, because the room had not been cleaned. Overall, the whole facility was unclean and smelled bad!

The room was covered in splattered paint/marker. There was "game" cards covered in dust above the lamps, smoke detector coveres in plastic bag. No towels or washcloths, 1/2 roll of toilet paper. Door looked busted/pried open. Deadbolt wouldn't lock. Outside had homeless persons clothes around the trash cans, dumpters, looking in the windows was mattresses stacked up in the hallways.

The staff here are great; very helpful and accommodating when need be. I have stayed here numerous times and will again. Yes the hotel is dated and some parts are a little run down, but it’s plenty passable and a comfortable stay. Great price as well.

We checked in at the front desk. Smell was overwhelming. We were in the room for about 4 minutes. Food, crumbs, cut up pills on the floor. Stains on the walls. Bugs behind the nightstand. Clumps of hair and garbage between the mattresses and box spring. We immediately asked for a refund and left. Environment completely unsafe.

The property seems to have been either out of service for years and just reopened again, or allowed to run into the ground with zero maintenance. There's obvious and severe decay in everything from furniture, stained carpet, broken shower head, rusty microwave, mirror removed from wall and kept in a corner, and the list goes on and on. The wallpaper is simply peeling off of walls and ceiling, half of the dining room being used for storage, and an offensive musty smell all over the place. The only good thing is the staff who seem to be doing their best under the circumstances. I'm told this place is scheduled for a complete reno. Maybe they should shut it down, renovate and then reopen once it's ready to house guests again. Pictures in the ad are probably from its prime, the place is nowhere even close to it anymore.

Couldn’t get any sleep. Divider door of the facility was next to my room and was being slammed every three minutes all night. I didn’t bother staying. Bathroom sink leaked like crazy, building had some minor damage on the doors and walls as well.
