We stayed at Franziska Haus for two nights. While the property is beautiful and the host is lovely and welcoming, the overall experience falls well short of the luxury standards advertised. One of the biggest disappointments was the lack of soundproofing. We could hear practically everything happening in neighboring rooms throughout the night, with noise starting as early as 6:30 AM, including footsteps, vacuuming, cleaning, and general activity. This made it difficult to enjoy a peaceful and restful stay. Breakfast is served only between 7:30 and 8:30 AM, which is unnecessarily restrictive for guests on vacation. At the very least, a selection of cold breakfast items could be available for those who prefer a more relaxed morning. Coffee was another disappointment. There is no coffee available in the rooms, and the coffee offered is Nescafé instant coffee. We’re in the Pacific Northwest, a region celebrated for its coffee culture, and at this price point, freshly brewed, quality coffee should be a basic expectation. Additionally, bathroom amenities are limited, and even basic services such as room cleaning or fresh towels must be specifically requested from the host. At $442 per night, especially in a small town like Newberg, expectations are understandably high. Unfortunately, the lack of basic amenities, poor soundproofing, restrictive breakfast hours, and limited housekeeping services make it difficult to justify the price.
