What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on board. Loose, breathable clothing is a wise choice, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-distance flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to poor circulation and inactivity, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.

• First things first. Your passport and travel documents will need to be shown to security personnel. Keep them at hand to avoid fumbling around for them.
• Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your belt, coat, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your headphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them before your turn.
• For just a few minutes, you'll have to unplug from technology. Your phone, tablet and any other electronics must also be sent through the scanner.
• Travelling with your favourite perfume or cologne? Not a problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-lock bag, it's OK to bring with you in your carry-on bag.
• There's a possibility that you'll be required to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a smart idea.
• Sharp or pointed objects (like knives and scissors) can't be taken on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them in your checked suitcase.
