I loves having the kitchen with full refrigerators for my cooler food. Hotel fridges often don’t have freezers these days. Our room was spacious and clean. We missed having an elevator, though.

We needed somewhere to spend the night somewhere near Galax to break up our trip between Knoxville and Northern Virginia. We weren't familiar with the area but the Washington Inn in Fries, VA worked out great. Richard was friendly and helpful both prior to and during our stay. It's less than 30 minutes to Galax and located adjacent to the New River and Trail with a view of the dam. We stayed in the Fisherman's Den room which is the only room on the main level near the common areas, which could get noisy at times. The room isn't huge but we weren't in it very much. The queen bed was comfortable. There is a community kitchen with several refrigerator/freezers, a microwave, coffee maker, Keurig, stovetop (I think) and more. We had dinner in Galax but had a drink at the Steakhouse just up the street. The Washington Inn appeared to be a much better option than anything we saw in Galax. We are planning to come back to do some biking on the NRT and would definitely stay here again.

The staff was not there but reachable by phone. Our first night was quiet. A family of five children occupied the room above and were up and around before 6 am. Carpeting would help the noise. Interesting river town.

Room was freezing and in need of a simple chair. There were pleny downstairs but not in the room. You need a chair to dress and put shoes on. Also when you finish riding you don’t want to sit on the bed. Also kitchen needed a drying rack paper towels or dish cloths. Beds were comfortable and location great. View of falls wonderful. Does the tv work downstairs?
