The property was nice, quiet and peaceful. I truly enjoy the tranquility of the property. My only concern is the area gets dark if you’re alone but the island I extremely safe. I would book again with a few friends.

Sea Shanty is a gem!
Jerome’s place is a gem! This was our second stay here, and we were so happy to be back. The location is great. Sea Shanty is close to amenities yet has a very private feel. The beach access is less than a 5 minute walk down a palm tree lined path that is just across the street. Tippy’s is a short (10-15min) walk down the beach. This year we made a visit to the Leon Levy Preserve – which is a short drive from the house, and well worth a stop. The house itself is very comfortable and tidy. While we rarely felt the need for the a/c, it was nice to have on the few occasions when we wanted to take the humidity out. The upper deck is a great spot for coffee/tea in the morning. The backyard is like a mini sanctuary. The plunge pool was amazing. Just perfect for a quick dip after a day out exploring the island. Jerome was available for questions, but never intrusive. He is also terrific at making suggestions for restaurants, as well as beaches/activities to do. We had another fantastic stay and hope to be back next year!

Super stay at Sea Shanty
We loved our time at Sea Shanty! Our 11 year old had fun in the pool and zip line, and we felt like we had the gorgeous beach out front to ourselves. Would love to return!

Perfect for adventure!
I searched for months for the perfect rental on this island. I landed on sea shanty because of its proximity to the beach, and central location on the island. Perfect location to explore each end of the island with ease. The sea shanty is not insulated, but has plenty of AC split units/wall units to keep it cool. We cooked the majority of our stay and had everything we needed provided! Beach chairs, cooler bags, umbrella, and snorkel gear was also at the house. A few games were provided as well. The owner was amazing. Above and beyond! Would definitely stay here again, or use his larger property that’s right beside this one if we brought more family along! You can’t go wrong with this listing!

We had a wonderful stay at Sea Shanty. The location was perfect, the house was charming, and we really enjoyed the privacy. The pool area was very private and quiet and the deck area around the pool was great for hanging out. Upstairs off the master bedroom was a wonderful large deck with an ocean view, which we did quite a bit of hanging out up there, too. Jethro was a wonderful host, met all our needs, and very responsive. I highly recommend staying at Sea shanty, I know we will be back for a repeat. J and D

Perfect Escape
Sea Shanty is a wonderful escape from reality. Situated a mere 5 min walk from some of the best beaches I’ve ever experienced. We walked miles each day and only saw a handful of people. The rental has everything you need and Jethro was very welcoming. My highlights would be: Sunrise yoga on the lower terrace Having my morning cup of tea on the upper terrace Using the jungle cut-through to go walking on the beach Afternoon pina coladas by the pool (the rental has a blender) Afternoon napping on the hammock We most definitely will be back!

Overall the property was exactly what the listing states. My wife, daughter (4), and I stayed here for 8 nights in July 2023. The Sea Shanty is an uninsulated cute Bahamian home. It is set in a thick jungle in front of one of the prettiest beaches we've had the chance to visit anywhere (we have been to 3 other Caribbean islands). There is a foot path directly from the house to the beach. This path is an adventure in itself. There is also a sandy side road 100 yards south of the home that allows you to drive to the beach. We walked the path many times and only drove once because the beach is so close. We recommend walking the sandy road to the beach. The main house AC runs great and we had it set to 76 and the whole house stayed comfortable. Each of the bedrooms has a window unit to supplement. The kitchen is small, but very useful. We cooked most of our meals at the shanty as it can be costly eating out (avg meal for the 3 of us $110 without drinks). The fridge/freezer work great and kept our food cold even during the power outages. The pool was very warm and a great way to end each day. Jethro is an awesome host! He was very quick to respond every time we had a question. One time we had a flat tire and couldn't get a hold of our car rental rep. and so we contacted Jethro and he was able to contact them through whatsapp and got us a mechanic on the way to fix our flat. tips: get an international calling plan with data, bring flashlight and battery powered fan.

Nothing short of perfection
This cottage is full and character and charm. The location could not be more convenient to get you close enough to activity but remote enough for privacy and beauty. The backyard is an oasis surrounded by lush greenery. Pool and hammock were so nice and relaxing. Beach close to home is breathtaking and so unoccupied!! Jethro is the kindest host that was full of helpful and interesting information about island. This property is perfection. You will not want to leave. As another review stated, make sure you’re able to do about 15 steep steps up to master bedroom. And if unable, you might also be content sleeping in the double bed downstairs. We stayed at Sea Shanty for 6 days in April. The cottage, the beaches, the island...everything was perfect. And Jethro is an amazing host, very responsive and so knowledgeable about the island. Starting with the cottage itself, it's bigger than it looks in the pictures and finished with lots of cute and quirky details like the deep kitchen sink reclaimed from the navy base. Perfect for a couple or family with kids (2nd BR is bunk beds). The only thing to know is the bathroom is downstairs and the stairs to the master bedroom are steep. Its great to have the pool for soaks after beach swims and the hammock to chill. It's really conveniently located close to Tippy's, Bacchus, Governor's Harbor, La Bougainvillea (good pizza night on Thursdays). And the beaches! You can walk for miles from the beach in front of the house. I did 10 miles one day; saw virtually no one. You're close to Club Med and French Leave Beach. At low tide you can get to Next 2 Rocks (or On the Rocks i can never remember the rocks) and Ji-Kan Beach...some of the best on the island. Jethro gave us great advice....check the wind direction. It swung around to the west while we were there making the normally calm Caribbean side rough...we had to time our trip to Ten Bay carefully. But the Atlantic side was perfect. Check the tide tables...for both coasts...too. We did nothing other than relax, swim, read, and eat local food (amazing grouper fingers at Delish and try the cracked conch anywhere). We will be back

Quick One Night Stay
We stayed at Sea Shanty for just one night. It was a great spot. We were close to Tippy’s and a quick walk to the beach. Perfect for a couple to use as home base for exploring. Jethro stopped by to meet us and give recommendations for dinner. The property is gorgeous.

Perfect place, perfect location
Jethro’s place was such an awesome property for our stay. It’s right in the middle of the island, so we were able to take day trips both north and south to cover the whole island. The pool was perfect for relaxing, and there’s a short walk to a pristine Atlantic beach, where we hardly saw any other people the whole time we were there. Jethro was very communicative and stopped by to say hi. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Jethro!

Enjoyed our stay!
Sea Shanty was a great little beach cottage, and exactly as described. It was very comfortable for two people, and the location was perfect! Very private without being remote. There is a gorgeous beach across the street, just a 3-minute walk down a path through the palm trees. You could bring the chairs provided, and easily spend the day hanging out, or take a short walk down the beach to Tippy’s. The upper deck was the ideal spot for coffee/tea in the morning. The pool was perfect for a quick plunge at the end of the day! Jethro was a fantastic host. He checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, and to let us know he was available should we need anything. And Bubbles was the best!! We’re looking forward to a return trip!

Private Cottage
Everything was as described and I enjoyed my stay. It’s a short walk to the best beach and the decks are perfect for hanging out and staring at the night sky (bring a telescope if you’re into star gazing) This is a good place to unplug (don’t expect constant reliable internet.. it comes and goes in this particular area ) 5 stars ! Host was great offered pool next door since no guest was there. I will keep Sea Shanty on the top of my list of places to stay when on the island .

A Perfect Stay in Eleuthera
Sea Shanty was the perfect home base for my husband and me during our first trip to Eleuthera. It's close to Governor's Harbor and steps from the prettiest beach we've ever seen. You walk down a wooded path for about 3 minutes to get to the beach, and it's gorgeous and very private. The home is super clean and perfectly appointed. We cooked two nights and went out the other three. Try Tippy's, which you can walk to on the beach. Jethro was so helpful and accommodating. I really did not want to leave! Highly recommend this home. Also, Laura and her husband Bill were wonderfully helpful with car rental and general questions about the island. Thank you all!

Amazingly cozy spot w/ perfect access to all Eleuthera has to offer!
This is my second time staying at Sea Shanty! I love the privacy the landscaping affords and how it’s such an easy walk to the beach. It’s really got everything you need for two people. You can easily zip around to all parts of Governor’s Harbor. Jethro was amazingly quick to respond and so accommodating. Anticipate I’ll be back again!

Cozy and beautiful beach house!
We loved our stay at the sea shanty! The space is very clean, and has a light, airy feel that makes it feel bigger than it is. It is beautifully decorated with a lot of really unique and creative touches. Extremely private and the beach was one of the best we visited on our 10 days on the island. My only suggestion would be a mirror in the bedroom to make getting ready easier for two people. Jethro was very responsive and easy to work with and we’d love to return.

Great place for 2 people that don’t require a lot of amenities. Very functional and charming…the bed was great!!! Nice water pressure and hot water for the shower. The 2nd floor deck was perfect for enjoying stars and the Bahama breeze! A beautiful stretch of beach right across the street. The only Thing that was a little bit annoying is ants that appeared every time anything was left out, including in the garbage, but the house is surrounded by trees and foliage so I suppose that is to be expected. There was also some water leakage into the house when it rained but nothing that stopped us from enjoying our stay. The owner was available to help us sort out a power outage, which was no fault of his. He’s very prompt in replying and very nice to work with. We would stay here again as we enjoyed the charm and perfect location of the sea shanty!

Lovely Little Place

Sea Shanty Retreat
Sea Shanty was perfect for my significant other and myself. We had the pleasure of staying at Sea Shanty for 4 weeks and enjoyed the entire stay. Contact with Jethro was easy. The Sea Shanty was exactly as listed! It is a cute place, very comfy & cozy. It has a strong air conditioning unit if you plan on being in the house much. But it's Eleuthera, you shouldn't be inside!

Just Perfect for Us!
My husband & I celebrated 25 years of marriage at Jethro's Sea Shanty, & it was perfect for us! It was comfortable, clean, & it was obvious that attention was paid to detail. Jethro was quick to respond when we had a question. Great location, too!! We went to sleep & woke up to the sound of the waves. We also had complete privacy. We loved it!

Cozy Cottage in Eleuthera
Cozy, secluded, cute cottage! Perfect location for the two of us to explore the beauty of Eleuthera. Comfortable bed, cold A/C and all the necessities from home. Excellent restaurants and other stores nearby, but I would recommend renting a car for the best opportunity to see all the beautiful beaches. Expect some power outages across the island with any storms, but it will be back on before you know it. Island life! We are counting the days until we can come back!

Perfect pit stop for a night in advance of our scheduled reservation next door -- fortunately, both listings are owned by the same individual. Jethro could not have been more hospitable, with accommodating our last minute change in flights, to recommendations for both day trips and places to eat during the off-season. The Sea Shanty was the perfect introduction to island life: rustic in all the right places, yet not lacking in any of the amenities -- especially when it comes to air conditioning. A five minute walk leads to the "golden mile" -- a stretch of the most amazing beachfront and turquoise blue water (Atlantic side) where you can swim, snorkel or sit. Had we not already committed to Jethro's home next door (Tradewinds), we would have been perfectly content to stay at the Shanty.

This rental is perfect for the weekend escape you know you need!!!! The location is perfect smack in the middle of everything. Grocery stores, an restaurants near by, but yet secluded enough from everyone. Trust me, do all your Grocery shopping before you check in, you really won't want to leave!!! The upstairs patio, calls your name to lounge around all day as you enjoy the sweet sea breeze an the sounds of nature. If you are looking for a spot to get away an relax, this is it!!!
