The property is close to Rocky Mountain national park so access is easy. We spent most of our time in the park and only utilized the property as a sort of home base.

Great vacation property!
The Roundhouse is a beautiful, spacious home with magnificent views of Shadow Mountain Lake and the Rocky Mountains. John was a very accommodating host and we would definitely stay there again if we are back in the area. A short walk to a really fun downtown area and the lake. Also very convenient for access to the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance which is less than 10 minutes from the house.

Round House in Grand Lake
My 2 sisters and I stayed at the Round House in Grand Lake. We had a really nice time. The house suited us well, it had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We were able to use the washer and dryer and the kitchen was nice. The view from the house was beautiful! The owner was very attentive to our questions. The parking was a little tricky at the house. Loved out stay in Grand Lake!

Icy Hill
Nowhere in the listing does it mention there is a very steep hill to get into the house. So steep that my 4wd couldn’t make it up after a big snow fall after several attempts. I called the host, JR, to explain the situation at which point he implied I wasn’t driving up the hill correctly because I had a Texas number (I’ve been living in Denver now for years). He convinced me to try getting up the hill again - bad idea - and after a few more attempts we almost slid the car into a nearby telephone pole. At this point a neighbor came out who lives in grand lake full time and we explain the situation to her. She tells us that we’re doing everything correctly but the hill is too slick. I called JR back and he then tells me I’m not putting my car into awd, despite that being an automatic feature in my car. The neighbor even confirmed that they saw all 4 wheels spinning. Eventually JR said he would call his dad to see what he could do for us. 5 minute later he offered a refund. After driving two hours with a full car the last thing we wanted to deal with was finding last minute accommodations, not to mention dealing with host, JR, who implied that we don’t know how to drive in snow, don’t know how to drive our car. The only redeeming factor is that JR called back a couple hours later to apologize because he had a friend who mentioned it was icy around town.

Pretty comical reading this. Why don't you just say you are a scammer and wanted to stay for free and I didn't fall for it. I drove in and out of the driveway all day and my housekeeper went up to assist you and drove in in a front wheel drive Honda. Shame on VRBO for even letting you leave a review. I gave you your money back. Go bother someone else for a free stay or you will leave a bad review.

Great stay. Excellent location. It was hard to find how to get to the property once in Grand Lake.
Overall a very pleasant stay. The property worked great for our group. Finding it once in town was tricky. Even the locals gave us incorrect instructions as to how to get to the house.

Beautiful View from the wrap around deck, the house is on a hill and is a great spot to look over the town and lake. If you are staying in the winter the driveway can be a little tricky, but there was a truck that came and plowed the snow in the mornings. Host was very nice and responsive. Would definitely stay again!

Unique and Convenient Rental
John’s place isn’t your cookie cutter VRBO. It has character and is incredibly cozy. The location is convenient to Grand Lake and to many different hiking trails. My group of friends and dog had a great time!

Security and other issues
Stayed 4 days at the property. Booked for location and open floor plan on main floor. The space is ok however I found it dated. The listing stated there was a deadbolt. That is not accurate. The main entrance is a sliding patio door. The door itself frequently came off the track and was very difficult to open. I contacted the host who sent out the housekeep to lubricate and we got the door back on the track. There was not a dead bolt on the door. There was a lock mechanism screwed to door and jam that was retrofitted. Because the sliding door did not have a track on the top of the door and often came off the track often the lock mechanism was extremely difficult to use. You had to press really hard on the latch mechanism. I contacted the owner he sent hot a couple of gentleman to look at the door and lock and agreed that repair or replacement needed to occur. The ladies in our group could not use the lock. So if they were there alone and wanted to leave they had to wait for assistance to lock the door or leave it unlocked. In addition to the lock being difficult to use it was screwed on with on 2 screws on the jam side which could be easily removed with simple tools and a little force. I feel the properties security was adequate. What also was not stated completely in the listing is the parking is limited due to shared driveway. In addition, the access is on a very steep i paved road which appears to managed privately. It became an issue when the usual mountain afternoon rain occurred. One day it was heavy and the rain created a large eroded area at the driveway entrance and was a bit of a challenge to traverse. Two of the chair/stools while we were there lost a screw and 2 guests feel of the chairs while sitting on them. We found the screws and hand tightened the screws. Overall the stay was OK however the property needs attention

Second year for a weeklong stay here, it’s perfect!
The view are fabulous, you have everything you need. It’s close to town and this time I brought a hummingbird feeder and sugar water so we could watch the amazing hummingbird wars. The rufous was outnumbered by broad taileds, yay!

July 4th
The round house was perfect for my family to spend the week of July 4th at Grand Lake. We got to see the fireworks at Grand Lake without obstruction & dealing with the crowd. Also a bear came strolling through right below us on the 4th. It was a great week to spend at Grand Lake. John was a great host & hopefully we will be able to return for a future vacation.

Basic Rental
If you are looking for a basic, no frills place to stay this will fit. The place needs some refurbishing, but it is clean. The beds are average. The A/C seems to need some repair work as the one time we tried to use it, it smelt like something was burning. The microwave door needs to be shut multiple times to get it to work. The TV in one of the downstairs bedrooms also needs to be fixed as it had blue lines running through the picture. The objects used in decorating the house are really eclectic; kind of like being in a second hand store. On the plus side, it is very close to the national park and Grand Lake's main street, and it is pleasant sitting on the deck.

Great Property with Amazing Panoramic View
What a wonderful time we had over Presidents Day weekend. From the nostalgic decor to the fully stocked kitchen, this property exceeded my expectations. Begin your day by opening the blinds to a mind-boggling panoramic view of Grand Lake while sipping a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Making breakfast and dinner each day was a breeze because the kitchen was full stocked with all the cookware we needed. After dinner we enjoyed the fireplace and card games while also Moose watching from the balcony. We saw about 5 or 6 Moose walking down the road during our 4 night stay. If you are traveling in winter make sure to turn OFF your vehicles traction control to make your journey up the steep driveway successful. I tried going up the driveway hill twice in my 2021 Honda Accord before parking at the Post Office and using Google/YouTube to figure out a better strategy. I will definitely be staying here on my next Grand Lake Adventure.

The location of this property is perfect - just outside of the downtown area. The place was an ideal size for the 6 of us. Communication was quick and clear. We had no problems at all. Would definitely come back. Grand Lake is such a cute spot! :)

Lots of room, interesting architecture, very comfortable, more than enough supplies. Lots of room to enjoy- spacious living room, great kitchen, lots of great decks, with wonderful views. Beauty of mountains all around. Only negative- WiFi a bit weak- weren’t able to watch movies we had downloaded. But, wonderful stay.

Best VRBO rental yet!!
For the last eleven years, we have been staying in a lot of vacation condo, apartment and house rentals and this is definitely our favorite. The wraparound porches, with views of the town and lake and RMNP and mountains towards the south, just incredible. Very comfortable too with everything you need. What a huge place, and that bathroom upstairs! When I woke up in the middle of the night I couldn’t resist stargazing through the skylight above the toilet :) 3/10 of a mile to town or less and the wonderful Mountain Market is just below you. We already booked it for next summer. Also Grand Lake is so great, we’ve always loved it but now really appreciate the lack of crowds compared to Estes. Also decor in home is so fun and eclectic. We wish it wasn’t booked tonight as we would have stayed longer

Hard to rate.
The property was a bit rundown. Lots of pealing paint. No dishwasher. No mirror above the sink in the main bathroom, which made shaving difficult. Had to go back and forth between the sink and a full-length mirror on the other side of the bathroom that wasn't well lighted. Shower in that bathroom was standup style like on a cruise ship. Hard to bend down. The pull-out couch turned out to be a lazy boy type recliner (without sheets) in the living room area. On the other hand our grandchildren loved sleeping on it, until the 5 year old granddaughter rolled onto the end and the whole thing collapsed in the middle of the night. Not sure what would have happened the second night. Two of the grandchildren fell asleep watching a movie on the recliner and my son-in-law carried the 5 year old granddaughter downstairs to sleep with them and the 11 year old granddaughter walked. Only the 9 year old grandson slept on it. There was a jacuzzi in the main bathroom. The grandchildren were excited about that too. It spewed out some sort of gunk when the jets were turned on (apparently hadn't been used in some time). Even so, our grandson cleaned out all the gunk so he could use it the second night. It's hard to complain about a place our grandchildren loved.

Not sure how to respond to this! We don't have a pull out couch that is a bed, therefore how would we have sheets on the couch, they are both new recliner couches. The house is advertised as a 3 bedroom 2 bath for a maximum of 8 people. If you didnt like the upstairs full bath with the jacuzzi tub, that is cleaned every single time, there is a shower and tub downstairs. Sorry, we really enjoyed cleaning up after you and thanks for letting you kids tip the couches over. Must have been rough walking your kids to bed. Next time rent a cruise ship!

This property is located at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National park and is also sitting above Grand Lake for beautiful mountain and lake views a beautiful wrap around deck for sitting and enjoying this little mountain town, we all enjoyed this house and the host were very nice and help with any questions. Would rent this property again
