We had a great time! Great location near fun activities, and enough space for all 14 of us to spread out. Comfortable beds for everyone too!

Just what I'd hoped: lots of history and plenty of space. I was pleasantly surprised by all the good optional amenities - coffee/tea station, kitchen expendables, two fridge/freezers. It made our travel logistics much easier.

Wonderful group home

We loved our stay. The owners representation was spot on and everyone enjoyed the house. The house does have some maintenance issues but they did not impact our stay what so ever. I would definitely come back!

Family Fun

Fifteen of us gathered at the Commander’s Quarters. With three floors and a basement, we never felt like we were in each other’s space. The house is charming! We enjoyed the location too— next to the state park trails, Astoria’s farmers market, short drive to the beach. A beautiful place to build memories.

Unique stay in a beautiful place!

Staying at this property was a very fun experience for our family (12 adults, 3 kids). The house was HUGE! and we loved the period-decor. It had everything we needed and was a very comfortable stay. The location was excellent. We enjoyed walking access to the Fort and easy access to the beach. Very quiet neighborhood, with great outside space. Close to all the things we wanted to do/see.

Fun and unique historic house

This house was perfect for Our family gathering. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with cooking utensils and spices. A coffee nook was a fun place to take care of our caffeine needs. There were signs and information posts about the history of the house and Plenty of games. we even had fun moving the “ghost” mannequin around the mansion.

Perfect for our adult reunion

Plenty of room for 13 adult siblings/spouses to gather, eat together, hang out on the porch. Kitchen was well stocked, large pantry with second fridge to stash food, coolers, etc. Saw a lot of elk right around the property. We were worried that there was no air conditioning, but even on the third floor in July, it never got too hot. (100 degrees in Portland, 69 in Hammond.) Enjoyed the period furnishings and the house history. I don't think I would bring small children there, however. Close to Astoria, 25 minutes to Seaside.

Family stay

Spacious, interesting, lots of bedroom. Didn't hear from host re protocol when leaving but eventually found old Liston side of fridge. Thought expecting guests to wash linens for 7 beds excessive,- removing sheets should have been sufficient. Photos showing billiard table didn't show dark, musty basement room it was in, with the TV. Liked ccking and dining supplies.

A perfect family reunion home

This is an amazing home! The Victorian furnishings were lovely--we felt as though we had stepped back in time. The kitchen was so well stocked that we never brought in the crock pot, electric griddle or large serving bowls we brought with us. We never ran into the ghost at all (they had filmed an episode of Ghost Adventures featuring this house and it aired on one of the nights that we stayed) but perhaps the happy sounds of a happy family kept the ghost at bat. We all voted to come back here in two years--everyone loved it!

Overall it was great

It was a great experience. The house is old and does have some age related issues, but nothing that distracted from our stay. Obviously no fault of the owner the power went out but they were kind enough to bring lights as the lights were out for 8 hours due to weather.

Step Out of Time

The Commander's House was a pleasant step out of time. Only one clock (in the kitchen), inviting spaces all over the house for conversations, a perfectly delightful kid's corner and a wide open parlour and dining room gave us places to gather as a group and for smaller confabs. The location was ideal for North Oregon Coast adventures. Storms made Dish network unreliable, and the solid construction of the house kept wi-fi to the first floor - part of the charm of "unplugging" for fully half of our group. Stairs, stairs and more stairs reminded us all of the hardiness of our predecessors and of our need to stay in shape. If you're looking for an immersive experience into history with all the conveniences of a well-stocked kitchen and ample bath facilities, this is the place! We loved it and hope to return.

Great location!

So much to see and do here. Lots of stairs, so may not be good for some. Our group found the painting with the angel in dining room rather offensive, but that’s just us.

Perfect

My sister's, myself and our brother grew up in Fort Stevens. This trip was our final goodbye to our Dad. We discovered the home was available and had more room than we needed. But it was all used. Such a beautiful home. I babysat the kids who lived there once and my little sister was friends with them. It was comforting to have such a welcoming home for our family to gather. We are already planning for next year. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Elegant classic home

The house definitely was a unique experience and very different from a standard bnb .. it felt like we were in a different age and era (in a good romanticized way) - my only criticism of this place is that the house had a strong musty odor when we entered .. it took a couple of days before the smell wore off and my son and I had a little trouble sleeping bcoz of it the first night. Other than that, charming rooms, fresh clean linens, fabulously stocked kitchen, ( such an amazing collection of teacups), vintage accessories, every room seems to tell a story ... all in all - an enjoyable stay!! Also, I m just a little curious why is there a mannequin in a white dress in the house - it felt like giving an unnecessary eerie/ creepy/haunted character to the house - which really is not needed IMHO - Ranu L

Huge cool house with some neglect

This home is really cool and big. It is also really old and run down. There are a lot of decorations that make it feel in the time period. On our stay the oven didn’t work and smoked us out. That is our biggest problem but it didn’t stop us from renting it again in November. Hopefully it will be fixed by then. There were elk in the yard. That was really cool. Another problem we had was driving all the way to Seaside to get the key when it looks like there is a lock box at the house. That added 20 minutes to an already long trip. The check out instructions say you need to have a load of laundry done and folded. I’ve never had that in a VRBO before. And feel like that is too much to ask.
