We rented the main Barn and Extension for a First Cousin Family Reunion for five days. There were twelve of us which accounted for eight families. Ages were mid fifties through mid seventies. We have a reunion every year. This was the first reunion in Colorado.
A one word description of our stay would be “FANTASTIC”, we will be back in the future. Durango is a lovely location. Great to get away from the heat of Texas. My wife and I visit Durango several times a year and know several of the Main Avenue store owners personally. We knew that the area would be friendly and welcoming to visitors.
The Barn was well stocked in the kitchen with plenty of dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils. We ate two dinners and two lunches and always had what we needed to cook three course meals. The ladies loved the open floor plan and large kitchen of the Barn side while the Extension side had plenty of room for breakfast for those on that side.
All bedrooms had plenty of bedding and sheets. The beds were hard but after a few days we made adjustments to make them comfortable. Bathrooms had all that was required, except bath soap! It might have been an oversight by the cleaning crew but we have never stayed in a location that did not provide a new bar of soap for each bath, shower, and lavatory. Additionally a large group needs more than one trash bin for long stays.
We never used any TV's only the WIFI. The WI-FI worked perfect with plenty of speed. We had the windows open at night with the fans so never used the AC. With all the beautiful windows the sun warmed things up in the morning so the heat was not used. It made for a perfect outdoor feel.
We filled each day with sightseeing and shopping. Local places we visited included the Bar-D show and dinner theater and of course the Durango & Silverton train. Downtown was as fun as usual. Plenty of stores to visit and places to eat, don't miss the Corner Crepes. Played Putt-putt for some serious Texas BBQ. Side note: I have been to Aspen for work and pleasure more times than I can count. Go to Durango for less crowds, friendly people and to save your money.
Out of town we visited Mesa Verde (a must), Four Corners, Shiprock, Purgatory (better in Winter) and Pagosa Springs. Plenty to do for everyone.
Durango Colorado Vacations was a great organization to work with. They helped give us piece of mind with a couple concerns about bedrooms and bathrooms. Twelve people using only five bathrooms takes a little work. Worked out for us after we saw the arrangement.
In short, Curry Barn was perfect for us and we are anxious to return.
