Hotham Heights

Travel Guide
Hotham Heights featuring snow, a sunset and snow skiing

In the heart of the Victorian Alps, challenge yourself on some of Australia’s best ski and snowboarding terrain. Breathtaking alpine views stretch for miles.

Looking toward Mount Feathertop, Mount Hotham Alpine Resort is well known for steep and exhilarating in-bounds and backcountry terrain. Find easy slopes too, where first-timers learn to ski, snowboard and become familiar with chairlifts.

Carve beautifully groomed slopes on Hotham’s acres of skiable terrain. Make fresh tracks on stunning tree-lined backcountry bowls. Play and jib off the mountain’s endless natural features and within exciting terrain parks. The Heavenly Valley chairlift often opens early for first tracks. Weather permitting, ride the free Kat to Golden Point to access untracked side-country terrain.

Accessible ski-in, ski-out accommodations options makes it easy to get your own ski and snowboard gear to your door. Or, leave your gear at home and demo the latest ski or snowboard gear suitable for the conditions while in the resort.

Improve skills with a ski or snowboard Masterclass run daily in peak season or book one-on-one private coaching for specific techniques. Master the mountain with tips for navigating the resort using its 13 lifts.

Hotham’s two terrain parks have beginner to expert features, including jumps, rails and boxes. Try the Rider X course designed by World Cup champion and Hotham Ambassador Alex “Chumpy” Pullin.

Ski under the stars on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. Snow tube and toboggan at Dinner Plain Snow Park, just 20 minutes down the Great Alpine Road, open daily and under lights on select nights.

Relax at the 104 F (40 C) Japanese-inspired onsen at Onsen Retreat + Spa. Enjoy a White Spa massage treatment. The village offers a range of dining options with delicious high-end and low-cost choices. Party the night away at Hotham’s many bars.

Try sled dog tours and snowmobile rides, exploring beautiful areas of snowy forests. Helicopter to nearby Falls Creek to experience more of the stunning Victorian Alps. Glide along the extensive network of cross-country trails around Mount Hotham, Wire Plain and Dinner Plain, all Alpine National Park protected areas.

Mount Hotham Alpine Resort is located on the Great Alpine Road, about a 4.5-hour drive from Melbourne. Find deluxe apartments, hotels and lodge accommodations at the resort and in nearby Bright. In summer, explore Mount Hotham’s stunning scenery by mountain bike or hike along the many mapped trails.
