We travel to Juneau Alaska June 2019, We have used VRBO several times from Hawaii to Yellowstone and haven’t been disappointed however this property left you wondering if VRBO has any oversight with the owners who list their property on VRBO.
1st) When we arrived we called as instructed. The owner said her son was at the property which was actually their home. We were met by the owner’s young son who gave us a key to a room addition added to the side of their home. They use the rest of their home as an assisted living center. I did not see the owner for the next two days.
2nd) The room was not clean there was a large amount of dirt behind the chairs and appliances. I was charged a cleaning fee., who received the money. The bedding, and towels were long past it’s wear period. You would think that if your using your property as a vacation rental you would replace the linen often to uphold some standards. It was apparent that the son or someone may have been staying in the room until it was rented. Then it was vacated the day we arrived.
3rd) The ceiling had a long water crack in the living room which the owner said happen when they built the room addition a few years ago but was never fixed. Who inspected this property that was placed VRBO for rental.
4th) Your assigned parking was on the far side of the owners driveway however there is a large drainage ditch adjacent to the driveway and the owner would park there vehicle next to our vehicle making it very difficult to enter or exit the driveway.
5th) The owner told us this room addition was made for her elderly father that had since passed away, the furniture appear to be used by an elderly person who spilled food or drink a lot. We noticed stains and dried food all over the furniture that appear to be there for sometime.
If this property is to be rented by VRBO customers then someone from VRBO should make sure the property is what is actually advertised.
Juneau Alaska was a great place to experience however it is apparent that VRBO allows their owners to places photos of rental property on the VRBO website without verifying the actual condition of the property and then when it’s not what the customer expected or paid for VRBO claims it’s not responsible for the property it’s a contract between the customer and the property owner which is very disappointing.
