"Ryokan Ginkaku offered a fantastic experience living in a traditional Japanese room but in a new building. It is very clean and spacious. We chose the wide room with private bath, which is very enjoyable. The traditional breakfast is fantastic (but for those who do not like fish for breakfast, perhaps better to skip this option). Locationwise, it is very close to Kyoto central station. Plenty of foods in the station Porta Dining. Close to bus stops too. Highly recommended."

"I loved the decor of my bedroom - little Japanese touches which made it feel special. The location was also excellent and easy to find, being close to the Gion corner and 10 minutes walk or so to the train station, shrines and shops. The staff were also very helpful and the free breakfast (of rolls and pastries) was perfect."

"'Shoes off, Yakata wearing' traditional Japanese experience! Very comfortable and warming. With tattoo restrictions on many Onsens and Sauna facilities around Japan, the private onsens here make it accessible. You can stay on the quiet side of the river or head over the bridge for the hustle and bustle. Very breathtaking area. Highlight was the traditional breakfast and dinner. So much food with such a huge variety. Would go back again if I was in the Kyoto area. "

"Very nice facility, located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, onsen was very clean. A bit of a walk to the nearest train station and convenience store, but not bad at all. Would stay here again if ever in Kyoto."

"We stayed for 2 nights. The property is a bit old but the service was very good even tho the front office staff didn’t speak English well but at least he tried Abd we could still communicate with him. The dinners and breakfasts were very good and we were served by a Taiwanese guy working there. We could communicate with him in both English and Mandarin easily. "This is a charming historic ryokan. We loved the traditional breakfast we had each morning and the kaiseki dinner on our last night. The onsen is also terrific. The location truly can’t be beat. We were easily able to walk to almost all of the places we wanted to visit. There are great bakeries, coffee shops and cafes just steps away. And finally the staff here is the best! They went above and beyond to welcome us and share a bit of Japanese culture with us. Highly recommend. "

"Stay was great! We are a family of 2 adults and 4 kids and there was enough space in our room for a comfortable stay. Hotel is 2 blocks from a main avenue with a lot of dinning options. The hotel doesn't ship luggage, only receives and storages them, however, there's a 7-11 a block from the hotel to ship luggage. Rooms were clean and everything was as expected. The male receptionist who spoke English was so helpful and nice. He gave our kids some boxes with treats and when we checked out, he...

"Our family of four really liked this hotel. The room was a great size for our family. We love that we each get our own bed, 2 individual beds and a bunk bed to fit 2 people. On the second floor- they have a small gym, a water and ice dispenser, a public washroom, a laundry room that has numerous washers (100 yen per wash) and, numerous dryers ( 100 yen for 20 mins). The hotel is located within great walking distances to markets and convenient stores. "
