So-so hotel
So-so hotel. The entrance looked like we were driving into Jurassic Park. The elevator was broken. The outside area was covered with ice and snow and my wife slipped and hurt her elbow pretty badly. At least it was mostly quiet, except for the people walking past our ground level window.

Unfortunately we are a in the middle of nowhere when we need to get "bigger" things fixed like the elevator.We are sorry to hear about the fall and I hope your wife is ok. Parking lots are not easy to "de" ice unfortunately.We wish you all the best.

Hotel Laki is a non smoking hotel. Unfortunately we can not totally prevent our guests smoking out side an open window or directly outside open doors. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Beautiful family-owned property just minutes on the outskirts of the village Kirkjubaejarklauster. Lovely rooftop setup with a glass room for the windy nights, to view the auroras from. The bar and restaurant on site are a little pricey but are delicious. The majority of the staff was accommodating but not overly friendly or inviting. Lovely place to visit if you like your alone time though!

Love Hotel Laki!
Hotel Laki might not be the newest hotel in the area, but they make up for it in character, kindness, and comfort! Our room was clean and cozily appointed - it felt like home! The restaurant was wonderful and the staff were warm and welcoming. I highly recommend adding Hotel Laki to your itinerary!

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Laki and were sad that we could only stay for one night. The rooms were very comfortable, and the food/bar was amazing! I highly recommend it for your Iceland journey!

This property is listed as 3.5 stars, but the 'economy' units deserve no more than 2 stars. The sheets had multiple holes in them - I stopped counting at 7. It's a very basic room. The staff were absent from the front desk at prime checkout time, or I would have relayed this message directly.

Clean, well maintained, nice views.
There is an obvious divide between an older section of the hotel and a newer section. We were in the older section. Things were dated, but not bad at all (think keyed lock vs electronic lock), no big deal. The room was decent size, had two twin beds and a small table & chair. Plenty of room to unpack. The room and bathroom were clean, with a step up to get into the shower. Both front desk staff, and the breakfast staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast had a decent number of choices, between deli meats & cheeses, breads, cereals, fresh fruits, juices and coffee. Plenty of room to sit in the eating area which was in the modern updated side of the building. Nice views of the surrounding landscape. Well maintained grounds. Electric car charging station was a surprise. Dinner was expensive so we did not indulge, though there aren't many other options nearby.

Exceeded expectations
This hotel was a standout during my 1 week tour of Iceland! I was pleasantly surprised by the room's size, comfort, and decor (We booked Standard Double or Twin Room). The dinner and breakfast buffets were great and the views were fabulous. The hotel was well marked & easy to find (which was helpful as we arrived after dark). Would have loved to stay in the area longer. The only downside was the room was hot- if I had stayed longer than 1 night I would have figured out how to adjust the temperature but to be honest I was too lazy to inquire. We even purchased a lovely handmade Icelandic sweater from the gift shop. Overall I highly recommend this hotel!

Be aware that some rooms are located in the ‘poor’ part of the hotel. Walls are very thin and you can hear everything floor is uneven. Room is small but has most of the things needed for one night. Breakfast was tasty.

The toilet in our room wasn’t fully working. There was no ventilation in the room so it was very warm even in October. Breakfast was a zoo and the food was not good. :(

The hotel is off the road 1. Scenic and quiet. At night if weather permit, you could probably see thousands of stars. Breakfast is good. We stay for 2 nights and find that it’s quite accessible to many place.

Don't do it!!
Do not stay here. We booked because nothing else was left- that should have been our first clue. We chose to believe the good reviews and figured the bad ones were unreasonable, bad decision. Hotel is clean, that's the only positive. Breakfast was ok. Front desk less than helpful. Hotel rooms so tiny. Hotel in disrepair, stains on hallway carpets, broken door handles, blackout shades that don't black out. Worst thing?? Horribly expensive for what you get. This was the most expensive place we stayed in our 9 days in Iceland and it was by far the worst. Please stay elsewhere.

I had booked this property because it was recommended by a travel blogger I really like - Hand Luggage Only as a great location to view the Northern Lights. Unfortunately, I did not see the Northern Lights during my stay but that's obviously impossible to control. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location is a peaceful and beautiful. The dinner buffet was good but it was disappointing to have the same food every night. The free breakfast in the morning was a standard hotel breakfast, nothing spectacular, but decent and great way to start the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The rooms were about the size of a standard, American hotel room. I wasn't feeling well, so really enjoyed the size of the soaking tub. There was a cozy rooftop room for camping out while trying to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. The breakfast buffet was decidedly European, but included a variety of bread, yogurt, oatmeal, souffle, sausage, and fresh fruits and veggies.

Good breakfast. Hotel room much nicer than bungalow. Minor issue with the shower handle keeps going to the left and you run the risk of hitting your head against the sharp corners of the shampoo dispenser while washing your hair.

2 night stay while exploring South Iceland
Remote and peaceful setting. Easy check in and out. Plenty of parking. The free breakfast buffet was good enough to get the day started. The dinner buffet was also adequate but $58 per person was a bit pricey. We justified the dinner cost by adding in the free breakfast and convenience of having it at the hotel. Not much around so plan accordingly if you don't eat there. Staff was super friendly. We traveled in from the capital. Stopped at the sights along the way. 2nd day went to the glacier lagoon and drove back to the hotel. 3rd morning woke up and stayed at another hotel much closer to the airport for an early departure.

Nice quite hotel on the south coast. Stayed a night after the glacier hike and visiting the glacier lagoon. Breakfast was nice. Clean rooms. Bathroom and shower small but not bad for a night.

Thank you, yes we are in the country side. There is the elf city near the hotel, the ash bunker and a nice walk to the lake near the hotel. Everything else is in driving distance.
