Size and location of home was great and the fact that it was pet friendly was one of our preferences. We paid for early check-in at 1 pm but we arrived before the cleaning crew, so I contacted Outer Banks Blue who said the extra fee would be reimbursed (hopefully it will). We knew the house looked a bit “worn” from the online photos. The LR furniture was heavily stained and in need of steam cleaning or new slip covers. Walls in bedrooms had multiple cobwebs noted, and cobwebs on rafters in LR/kitchen, dining room furniture etc. Morning after arrival Outer Banks Blue (OBB) texted to see how everything was so I reported the lack of cleanliness, and made them aware the toilet paper and towel bar in one bathroom was broken, light fixture in another bath was hanging from ceiling, and a few other minor things. They sent a maintenance person out who fixed these items. He said he would be back the following day to address cobwebs but didn’t return. The following day we identified another issue, we had a rodent or rodents in the house, overnight a package of burger buns and a mango had been partially eaten. Rat poop was noted on the floor, so I contacted OBB again, they sent a tech out who confirmed our suspicion, found evidence of openings and chewed wood under the house and he said he would be back to start treatment, traps with peanut butter, he came back two more times, but the rat was not caught, although we did not have anything else eaten in the house, and did not leave anything on the counter anymore!
We had a great reunion and enjoyed spending time together, but were a bit disappointed in the lack of cleanliness and general maintenance of the home, lightbulbs in bedrooms and bathrooms were low wattage, home smelled like mildew so we purchased air fresheners for 2 BR on lower level. I’d consider renting thru OBB again, but don’t know that I’d return to this specific home without some reassurance that routine maintenance was performed going forward and that the housekeeping supervisor who came as the crew was departing did a more thorough job in her “inspection”.
