  • The House:
    The house is a historic riverfront home built in 1926 in the town of Morattico, Virginia. Perfect for groups of friends with kids, or family reunions. Here are some details on this beautiful getaway:

    - On 1 acre of land with plenty of privacy.
    - 4 bedrooms, 1.5 baths plus enclosed outdoor shower, and additional outdoor shower open to the sky.
    - Wrap around screen porch with swinging porch bed, deep seating, bar area, and water/ sunset views
    - Living room with Wifi and internet enabled TV for login with your Netflix/ Amazon Prime account. Living room couch is comfortable to sleep on and door can be closed to provide privacy/ 5th bedroom.
    - Dining room with table for six plus additional table leaf.
    - Dogs allowed (with Pet Fee).
    - Linens/ bath towels provided. Beach towels NOT provided.
    - Yard, dock, and waterfront has incredible amenities (read more about it below).

    Room 1: Upstairs Bedroom has a queen size bed and antique dressers. Has gorgeous water and sunset views from 4 windows. Shares hall full bath.

    Room 2: Upstairs bedroom has four (4) full/ double size built-in bunk beds which will sleep 8 in this room. Perfect for kids! Shares hall full bath.

    Room 3: Upstairs bedroom has a queen size bed. Water views from windows. Shares hall full bath.

    Room 4: Downstairs bedroom with queen size bed and antique dressers and armoire. Water view. Half bath on ground floor, can also share full bath upstairs.

    The Land:
    This home is situated on a sandy beach on the bay of Lancaster Creek just as it meets the Rappahannock River. Approx. 100' of waterfront fun!

    View of the sun setting over the water every single day!
    - Sandy beach between the jetties at low tide.
    - Water is approx 3' deep at the dock at mean low tide, with a wonderful smooth, firm, sandy bottom (not muddy!).
    - Stone Firepit with Adirondack benches.
    - Shade Pergola with seating.
    - Extended pier with large dock
    - Fish cleaning station
    - Pulley mooring system, power and fresh water hose for your boat needs!
    - Local boat landings include Simonson Landing (DGIF) and Whalen's Marina (waterfront gas) on the same bay of Lancaster Creek as this home.
    - Complimentary kayaks, sunfish sailboat, and canoe with life jackets
    - Fishing rods and Carolina rig fishing tackle ready to go!
    - Crab pots and crab lines/ nets
    - Corn hole, bocce, horseshoes
    - Sheds have umbrellas, folding beach chairs, water floats and tubes
    - Sheds also have a full size clothes washer and dryer.
    - Enclosed outdoor shower is private, large and spacious, with a bench/ dry area for changing. There is also an ADDITIONAL private outdoor shower open to the sky above.

    Great for Groups of Friends:
    This home is a great place to host a group of friends!
    - Jump in the water right off the dock!
    - Grilling, drinking, yard games, sunsets, hanging out on the dock, bonfires, watching sports. This home has you covered!

    Great for Family Reunions:
    Family reunions often have up to 4 generations of family, spanning from little babies to great grandparents. This home is comfortable for all age ranges!
    - Lots of spaces for people to eat together.
    - Lots of spaces for people to gather together, hang out, sit, chat, have fun.
    - Lots of fun for kids: Water activities, roasting s'mores for the first time, fishing and crabbing, seeing the stars SO WELL!!
    - Comfortably sleeps14 people in beds, plus living room couch as required!

    The Kitchen:
    Food is a huge deal when getting together. All you need to bring is your food!

    - Two (2) full size refrigerators
    - Range with stove and microwave
    - Full size dishwasher
    - Comes completely stocked with cooking needs, including a large selection of pots, pans, serving dishes, platters, cookie trays and more.
    - Plenty of cooking knives for the chefs in the family.
    - Coffee maker: Enjoy an early morning sunrise with fresh coffee on the dock or screened porch!
    - Outdoor propane grill and Blackstone grill, complete with extra tanks of propane.
    - Outdoor charcoal Weber kettle type grill.
    - Large steamer stock pots for crab boils.

    WIFI:
    Internet service is provided via FIOS landline/ router.

    Location:
    The northern neck of Virginia is a remote historic region where you can get away from it all, but it is surprisingly close to everything:

    - 20 minutes to Warsaw for local dining, groceries, ice cream parlor.
    - 20 minutes to Kilmarnock/ Irvington/ White Stone for boutique shopping.
    - Historic local attractions include the birthplace of George Washington, the family home of Robert E Lee at Stratford Hall, and Morattico's very own Morattico Waterfront Museum within walking distance!
    - Chesapeake Wine Trail
    - Local golf courses including the Golden Eagle and Quinton Oaks
    - approx. 75 miles from Richmond, VA, or Williamsburg, VA

A lovely getaway in a charming farmhouse with a fabulous sunset view. The screen porch is a perfect place to read and watch the birds. Lots to do around the area but you aren't going to want to leave the property!

We had a wonderful week stay as a family. The easy access to the water and exterior amenities made a day floating on the water a breeze. The property is super private and makes for its own oasis. We loved the charm of the old home and it had all of the amenities we needed. Screened in porch was great for early morning coffee chats or a nice reprieve from the sun. Not to mention the sunsets were amazing! We would visit again!

Family getaway

The house had plenty of space for our family of nine 3 couples and 3 children ages 13,12,6. The kitchen had everything we needed. We loved spending time on the dock fishing and crabbing. Although we wasn't able to swim most of the time because of all the jelly fish we still enjoyed our vacation

Fun place

We knew the Northern Neck. For others a bit out of the way. But it's the land of pleasant living and a great place to relax. Lots of ways to enjoy the water. We used the crab pots, canoe and kayak. Inconvenient to have to bring sheets and towels when you're driving cross-country.

A little piece of heaven.

The owners made everything SO perfect for our family reunion. The house was very clean, plenty of hot water, and the AC was flawless in a week of 100+ temperatures. Although it is an older property, the kitchen appliances were updated (and the 2 refrigerators were a huge success). The washer/dryer were large, clean and invaluable for a week at the river! The dock, grill, spacious yard, etc. made this property exactly what we needed. Country living at it’s best, with perfect sunsets over the Rivah. Thank you Patrick and family!

Great Family Time

We really enjoyed everything this place had to offer for a fun river experience. The grandkids/kids enjoyed hours of jumping off the dock and the water toys included. My husband enjoyed being able to have his boat secured at the wonderful pier/dock with fish cleaning station. We sunned, went boating, caught lots of crabs, enjoyed beautiful sunsets and cooked on all of the outdoor options available. Lots of outdoor space to gather together. I especially loved the outdoor shower and appreciated the comfortable beds. My only complaint (and it may be good for others) is that we brought lots of supplies and food to cook meals for our large family and there was not much room in the refrigerators and cabinets because of the owner's supplies. I just stored what I could in bags and it all worked out. The longer I was there, the more I fell in love with the place.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Property owners had no control of the weather and I had envisioned nice mornings to sip my coffee outside. Hottest June I can remember! But even with the heat and humidity I could have my coffee outside until I had to go in around 7:00am. It was what it was- an older home by the river with beautiful sunsets and room for updates. What one of us has not had to live without all the conveniences of home when on vacation? Any shortcomings were overcome by the laughter of grandchildren, friendly “jabbing”between adult siblings, fishing into the wee hours of the night, board games played on the dining room table, the smell of fresh coffee, bacon, eggs, and pancakes in the early morning and the sweet good byes when time came to go to our separate homes until the next special occasion comes about. Make the memories and cherish the time you have together at this house or where ever you find yourself!

This is an amazing piece of property Our family had a wonderful week here. It felt so familiar to the river house & property we’d stayed at for 18 yrs. We saw many osprey, a bald eagle and many porpoises We fished caught crabs and enjoyed the magnificent sunsets. The screened in porch was a perfect place to socialize and reminisce about all the fun we had that day. Wouldn’t hesitate in renting this again. Patrick was a great host

Peace on the River

This was the first time booking an Air B&B. The Howe owner made the process very easy and welcoming. The place was relaxing and peaceful. The kids enjoyed fishing and canoeing.

Relaxing and Quiet

Away from it all and in the middle of nowhere is the main feature for this property and the boat dock. The house needs some sprucing up and some updates but you can tell the owner is making progress on getting things fixed. Overall the house is charming and the property private and enjoyable.

Great getaway

If you are looking for a peaceful location for relaxing and to get away from it all, this is your place! Our family enjoys water activities, and you cannot get any closer to the water than this property! We much appreciated the provided crabbing and fishing equipment/gear, kayaks, canoe and 'floaties!' We prefer staying in older homes with character than fancy hotels, meaning the house was just right for us! :) We wish we owned a boat.....that would have made our vacation 100% perfect! If you want a vacation location around the corner from stores and restaurants, then this may not be the place for you, but if you want to kick back and enjoy quality time with family and friends, this is a great place to do just that!

The peace and quiet we all needed!

Waterfront tranquility

Location is wonderful! Extremely quiet and private. This is NOT a resort area just a quaint former fishing village. Great facilities for bringing your boat. Beach size varies with tide cycles but was very adequate. House is close to 100 years old but has had a lot of renovation. We were anxious about 5 people sharing a bath and a half but then we discovered the wonderful open air outdoor shower. It got more use than the indoor shower. Owner has provided every imaginable water toy and convenience. Only drawback was limited internet (tv was internet based and buffered excessively. Provider problem not owners fault.) And then there are the sunsets!!!! Have your camera ready. They are wonderful and different every night.

This is our second time here and you can not beat the beautiful water views. The house is stocked with every water toy possible! I would recommend bringing your favorite cooking supplies if you like to cook as what is there is pretty beat up!

A Wonderful Week on the Rivah!

This is a very comfortable, warm and traditional River house. The furnishings are fresh and fun and the property is equipped with everything needed to have fun on or in the water. The waterfront lot hosts magical sunset views, good fishing from the dock and is very private.
