I am "Ogliastrina doc", born and lived on the east coast of Sardinia.
This allowed me to live a beautiful childhood. Experience the sea from June to September, go on family hikes in the nearby mountains, especially in summer, to find some refreshment from the summer heat.
My activities were tied to the spaces that I could reach with my friends on foot and by bicycle.
At 18, I got engaged to the person who is now my husband, also from Ogliastrino, but born and lived in the hills of Jerzu: the "city of wine", where the famous Cannonau is produced.
Riding our motorbike, a Piaggio Vespa, we toured all of Ogliastra, from the sea to the mountains, from the municipal roads to the dirt roads. Then true love was born for this wonderful place.
Over the years, we have had the pleasure of meeting French, Swiss, Dutch and German boys who came to Sardinia on vacation, usually on foot or by bike, to enjoy and savor all that this corner of paradise offers.
So we bought two mountain bikes and slowly, we reviewed the places already visited by car and motorbike, completely changing our perception of a more authentic Sardinia, between breathtaking hairpin bends, Mediterranean scrub hills, vineyards and olive groves, passing through small villages mountain or steep cliffs and dream beaches.
We were lucky enough to hear the stories of our grandparents, who after having lived their childhood during the first and second world wars and all the hard work, have equally reached one hundred years of life.
Grandfather Antonio, was a great walker, with his ferula stick, he traveled many kilometers in the countryside looking for mushrooms and collecting edible herbs.
He said that "to discover a land you have to travel it step by step".
Following his advice, we discovered Nordic Walking.
It was fun to see the amazement of the locals watching us as we took our walks on the beach or in the mountains with our sticks.
They were nothing more than an evolution of Nonno's ferula stick, light, resistant that played a fundamental role during his walks in the countryside.
When our daughters arrived, our outdoor activities did not diminish: we equipped ourselves with hiking boots, poles and a backpack for children and we started to walk the paths in the territory of Baunei.
Initially, starting from our Base Camp (our home), we walked along the "Su Rele", a panoramic road that overlooks the town of S. Maria Navarrese.
Then we ventured on the path that from the Santa Maria Navarrese Hostel reaches Pedra Longa, then gradually through the coves: Goloritzè, Sisine, Mariolu ... We have lived fantastic days, struggling a bit along the paths, but enjoying beautiful landscapes and relaxing and regenerating swims in the most beautiful sea in the world.
During life, as well as in any trip, you get to know places, people, traditions and new cultures.
This is the reason that today leads us to accompany our girls on vacation and to want to share our home, to allow you to get to know Ogliastra, a corner of wonderful Sardinia.
Sardinia is the island of nuraghi.
The nuraghi are ancient megalithic buildings that are not found anywhere else in the world, they represent the largest and most mysterious archaeological treasure in Sardinia.
Ogliastra in particular is the land of centenarians.
It is one of the parts of the world, called "blue zones", where it is possible to live longer and happier, where the average age is very high.
Getting a hundred years here is easier than anywhere else.
In recent years, many scholars, journalists, curious tourists have come from all over the world to discover the secret of this longevity.
Will it be the air you breathe, the food or maybe the water? Physical activity? Genetics?
Or simply tranquility, the silence of nature, which transforms everything into a source of wonderful well-being.
Sardinia is not just sea.
We invite you to visit Ogliastra, not only in July and August, when beaches, coves, mountain paths are teeming with vacationers, but especially in the "low season", when they can be enjoyed, almost exclusively, the beautiful beaches of Tertenia, Cardedu, Barisardo, Tortolì, Arbatax, Girasole, Lotzorai, Tancau and Santa Maria Navarrese.
It's possible:
• Walk or cycle the paths of the Gennargentu, the Supramonte Ogliastrino, the Tacchi d’Ogliastra
• Take part in excursions to Gorroppu, along the Cale Di Baunei
• For the more adventurous, run on the shepherds' paths and on the mule tracks overlooking the cliffs, taking part in the "Selvaggio Blu" Trekking or in the TrailRunning Ultrasupramonte, an outdoor event in the breathtaking scenery of the Supramonte of Baunei.
