This fascinating area is one of Europe’s most important sites for both breeding and migratory birds and, intriguingly, is also home to one of the largest populations of seahorses in the world. Boat trips, kayak hire, guided walks and some lovely unspoilt beaches are all available in and around this unique and constantly changing coastal lagoon which the locals are fervid in protecting for the enjoyment of this and future generations.
All amenities as well as a choice of excellent restaurants that include several Michelin starred establishments are found at Almancil (6km) while Quinta da Lago (7km) offers further excellent shopping and dining, some magnificent sandy beaches and famously world class golfing.
