「Absolutely lovely setting- the photos don’t do it justice. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Easy on site parking. Nice breakfast. Lovely pool and hot tub. Some decent restaurants within walking distance. 」

「Amazing place and great location , Joao and his staff were very accommodating and helpful during my stay , would highly recommend and would book again when I’m back in Amarante , the breakfast at the bakery across the hotel was amazing and the staff there were very nice and helpful as well , I was in town in to prepare for a cycling race and they helped with a breakfast box the day of my race. 」

「The reason I gave it 4 stars is because when I booked it it stated it had a bathtub but it was a shower. Also it said it had a hot tub but it was broken. The shower water was spraying everywhere. The wifi doesn’t have great reception tv doesn’t work as it can’t connect to wifi. Staff is very nice but it stated on website they speak Portuguese and English, no one speaks English there the owner did use google translate. It’s very clean and beautiful hotel. 」

「We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. Just plan ahead if you’re staying on a Sunday as many restaurants were closed but we found a gem in Cinfaes - Sabores e...

「Everything about the place is beautiful and deserves a longer stay to enjoy all the amenities. Unfortunately, the town is charming but does not offer much for more than 1 night. If I could do it again, I would arrive earlier to enjoy the facilities and great restaurants, spa, etc., and still have some time to walk around the charming town.」

「We were heading out very early one morning for a tour and because breakfast was not served until 8:30 we would have missed it. They left everything in the fridge se we could help ourselves to breakfast very early. Very much appreciated. Susanna was wonderful and made us a fire and was very welcoming.」
