Grand 15th-century castle that eventually fell to Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War (1646). The castle was surrendered mostly in-tact, but was slighted (purposefully disabled) to prevent any future use as a fortification.

Today it's an atmospheric ruin that makes for a fun visit.

“Great place to stay. Both bedrooms are en-suite which was great for us. Supplies of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and milk came in handy. TV with freesat in living room, and 1 bedroom. We also had portable fans in both bedrooms. Had a lovely time. Would definitely book again if visiting Newport. ”

“This property has so much potential and I really hope the owners are able to make it everything it could be. Unfortunately at the moment there's a lot of room for improvement and the price didn't reflect that. The cleanliness level was not brilliant and the space was extremely cold. You are provided with a small gas heater, however it simply isn't capable of heating the space on a cold night. The bedding is summer weight, and there is no insulation, so the cold really bites. There is poor……
