Nice Place

Great return stay in a fantastic home

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Hale Kukui OIa is just amazing! I stayed here 11 years ago and it was great to be back. It's such a beautiful home...light, airy and well decorated. It's got everything you need for a stay. Great to relax on the terrace or the tub. Loved the friendly geckos too. Great management from Hawaii Life too. There was a slight problem with the water and Jolanta was straight over to fix the issue. I'd say Hale Kukui OIa is my dream home. I'll be back!

Crazy neighbor behind jacuzzi

We loved this place! Came for a second stay but this time the neighbor screamed bloody murder at 10:30 pm on our first night which scared us to death. Then in the morning called the police on us for the baby laughing at 7:35 am. Not good if you travel from the East coast Not good unless you whisper there

Great home and stay!

We had an excellent stay here. Everything exactly as pictured, and it is super close to Kahena black sand beach. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck, taking a few walks around the neighborhood, and using the hot tub after a day of Big Island adventuring. Met a few locals in the area who were very nice as well and gave us more recommendations on things to see and do. Would definitely stay here again when back on the island!

Wonderful

We enjoyed the property very much! It was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. It felt very much like the comforts of a home were considered. The location was fantastic, we were able to walk to the black sand beach easily. We are giving five stars because we think this property is beautiful and we had a comfortable stay. Things of note: The bed in the lower unit is quite soft and caused discomfort during sleep for the adult sleeping there. We did not use the hot tub because it was very heavily chlorinated, slippery to the touch. We did not use the grill because it looked like it was not going to function well, and might need to be replaced soon?

Best outfitted kitchen ever!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house was lovely and perfect for our family of 5 adults and 2 children who slept with their parents. The grounds were amazing and we spent time walking around the yard and loving al the flora. Our host had a lovely bouquet on the dining table awaiting our arrival. This was the best stocked kitchen I've ever seen on a rental property including coffee grinder, blender, counter top ice maker, spices, sauces, Nespresso and regular coffee maker. The living room was large and comfortable with a wonderful view and a wrap around deck with nice furniture outside. We were very comfortable with space and supplies. My only negative is the downstairs bedroom was hot. Even with the fans from the rest of the house transported down there and windows open, it was hot. The loft bedroom and the master bedroom were more comfortable. The younger adults enjoyed the hot tub. One of the black sand beaches was walkable. Our host was most helpful whenever we had a question. The downstairs bedroom was completely private from the rest of the house. Except for the room temperature, I would give it a 10!

Fun and relaxing stay

Overall the stay was quite nice. The place is tucked away in a quiet part of the island very close to the ocean. We checked in late at night and initially it felt a bit eery since it was quite dark, there was no cell service and we were enveloped with the sounds of coqui frogs all around . Bu waking up the next morning to a beautiful sunrise definitely turned things around for the better. Overall, our stay at the property was very enjoyable. The upper unit is spacious and very well lit with ample outdoor seating and the amenities like the hot tub with greenery all around definitely made our stay extremely relaxing. A few things to note: 1. We did not realize the lower unit is not connected to the upper unit and lacks a kitchen or a water tap. If you have folks staying in both units you'll probably need to fill up on water before sleeping to avoid waling upstairs. 2. The bathrooms do not have an exhaust fan, so you need to keep the windows open to ensure it is well ventilated to avoid odors from sticking around. 3. The kitchen in the above unit does have a Nespresso machine but none of the pods provided worked with the machine. It would be nice if they can provide compatible pods as the nearest grocery/cafe store is a bit far our from the property. Otherwise, be sure to bring coffee with you if you need some first thing in the morning. Overall, the property was well maintained and we had an very pleasing stay!

Kehena House

This was a very nice and clean house. Everything is in good shape. The hot tub and outdoor shower were very nice. The yard was beautiful. The reason that we rented a house was that we needed a kitchen for cooking due to family members with food allergies. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything that we needed. There was a Nespresso machine, however, it would be nice to have a traditional coffee pot because Nespresso pods are harder to find. There were a few drawbacks. There was no cell service with Verizon. When we needed to contact the manager, the only option was using the home phone. The manager did respond right away to our initial question the first night. However, we had a question about the trash removal later during our stay that was never answered. Both inside showers have windows in them that can be seen from the road and by the neighbors. Also, while we were aware that the description of the house stated that one bedroom had a separate entrance, it was not clear that it was in no way connected to the rest of the house. We did not use that bedroom suite as we had planned as we were not comfortable leaving our children separated from us. Other renters may want to be aware that there was another vehicle in the driveway. We thought we had the wrong address because of this and also thought that someone may be inside when we arrived. We arrived at night and I had to use my phone light to see as everything was very dark. Overall, this was a very nice house and we had a nice stay!

Escape to paradise

Quiet neighborhood with mostly older residents (we didn’t see any kids in the 5 days we stayed) and a short walk to the cliffs where sunrise is spectacular every day. Lots of space in the home to spread out, ceiling fans maintain good circulation. Loft is good work space, but the bed upstairs is like sleeping in a taco- the mattress is very soft and pretty much folds you into the middle, perhaps better for one person! Views are spectacular, coqui frogs sing you to sleep every night, and the plants & trees in the yard are well maintained and interesting to investigate. Easy to find, pleasant drive out there and you definitely feel like you are escaping from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life!

Perfect oasis for a relaxing getaway

The location was very quiet (we barely saw any neighbors), the house itself was clean and cozy, and the views were awesome. We loved being able to spend so much time in the hot tub, which was surrounded by so many beautiful plants that it felt very private. We also enjoyed the location - there is a grassy park at the end of the street with some beautiful ocean views, as well as Kehena Beach a few minute drive down the road. We didn’t want to leave, and agree that we will absolutely return to rent this property in the future!

Life is good, island time is on your side.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: House was a perfect place to relax, cook meals and slow life down. Private oasis to enjoy the garden and hot tub. Not far from beautiful black sand beaches. This side of the island is truly the best when you want to get away from all the tourist. Pele's in Pahoa for breakfast is highly recommended. Uncles Kaimū Farmers Market on Saturdays is worthwhile with lots of local flavor.
