My wife and I hadn't been back to Telluride since our honeymoon several years ago. Therefore, to spend just over a week on Hastings Mesa was perfect. I had handled finding a place to rent and she wanted to be suprised so she never looked at any of the pictures. So when we pulled up, she was so happy with what she saw. The setting is amazing and the attention to detail with the house made it that much better. We both agreed that it seemed like an Italian farmhouse meets the Rockies. It is also worth noting how clean it was and we are both, self-admittedly, a bit obsessive about those things. We timed our trip with Bluegrass and given the property is out of Telluride about 40-ish minutes, we knew were were going to do some bluegrass, some biking and a whole lot of relaxing. The average day was either popping into Telluride or Ridgway...or if we felt like doing nothing, we would hang out and play some music, lounge around on the patio, bbq and occasionally get some logs going in the fireplace. Ridgway is a great place to get groceries and if you feel like getting a bite to eat, it is only about 20 minutes away. In addition, you get to take a look at the edge of Ralph Lauren's estate as you drive into town. The size of the estate and scenery is pretty impressive!
We mainly cooked at the house, but on our way out of town [via Ridgway] we stopped at Kate's place and found out they cook breakfast all day. The service and food were great. Unfortunately, I still needed to get some work done while there and the wifi worked perfectly. Fortunately, we didn't have much luck with cell reception directly at the house...but that is what made the house even better. There is a booster for Verizon (I believe), but I never cared to check. If you can't leave the cell addiction at home, you can always drive down the road a bit, but I think most people will find it pretty refreshing. So outside of groceries, beer and wine...you never need to leave as everything else is provided. If you are curious about the setting, just look at the opening title shots of the original 1969 True Grit movie. Just beyond the homestead is the road to the property. It is a special place!
Last, but not least, Joanna is great to work with. The description of the property is very accurate and it couldn't have worked out better. She has a listing of contacts in case anything popped up, but nothing did. With that said, thank you for sharing your home! We'll definitely be back! Cheers!
