My husband and I were in town for a family celebration. Staying in 'Casa Maggie Mae' felt just like what I imagined a beautiful Portland home in a great neighborhood would be-- everything within walking distance, and cozy comfort. We'd happily stay again!

Great weekend stay at Casa Maggie May! The communication with the owner was super quick and easy and the house was adorable. Plenty of room for our family and walking distance to breweries and restaurants. The house was incredibly clean and every detail taken care of.

Great stay at Casa Maggie Mae
Had a wonderful stay at Casa Maggie Mae. House was in beautiful condition, and off street parking was great. Nice quiet neighborhood , and was close to great restaurants, etc. and easy highway access for trips to the coast, mountains, and wineries! Host was great to work with and very informative on the area. Can't wait to go back.

Neighborhood Charm
We selected this property northeast of downtown Portland given its proximity to our daughter, who we were in town visiting. While we didn’t spend much time in the home beyond sleeping, it was cozy and well appointed. Single serve Keurig machine was a nice touch and the water in that area is good, eliminating the need for bottled water. Easy Uber access, walking distance to great restaurants, coffee houses and groceries. I’m a fan of an electronic entry; Steve made it simple to gain access and lock up. We would stay there again when back in town.

Great Visit / Great House
Casa Maggie Mae is a beautifully-restored, charming home in a great neighborhood. It is thoughtfully appointed--great linens, shampoo/conditioner, kitchen items--everything. We brought our teen daughter and the 2-bedroom layout gave her the privacy she likes. If we'd had more people, there were comfortable-looking futons in good locations. We had terrific meals in the Alberta Arts District and North Mississippi neighborhoods and found the house extremely convenient to both. Steve was really nice and easy to work with! Check-in was a breeze.

We love Casa Maggie Mae!
This was our second time staying at Casa Maggie Mae and it is one of our favorite VRBO’s of all time. The home is beautiful yet comfortable (feels like home) and is well appointed with everything one would need for a short or long stay. The neighbors are friendly and kind and the neighborhood is walkable and safe. Steve is a great owner, so easy to talk with and attentive to your needs. Our family stayed over Easter weekend and the home was a perfect fit. Beautiful decor, yet comfortable and felt like home. The homeowner is very welcoming, kind and communicated fantastically. The home was supplied with all we needed, beds were very comfy and the layout was excellent with two teens who need their own space from the parents. Location was perfect, central to all of Portland, walkable, quiet and safe. We will definitely visit again and highly recommend!

Older modest "Portland" Suburb home in quiet neighborhood.
Positives: Home was clean, rooms were relatively large. Appliances all working, host provided condiments/coffee which was a nice touch. Host was attentive and offered his help. Barbecue grill available outside. Dining room easily held 6 people. Parking was not a problem although the on premise parking spot was at quite an angle to the street. Wifi system worked well. We normally rent a condo downtown but due to local conditions decided to go outside the city center. Negatives: Money paid well in advance but VRBO rules prevented host from telling us where the house was. Door opening was controlled by a smartphone app we had no notice of until a few days before arrival (driving across country). It turned out not be a problem but could be if no smartphone or not computer savvy. Check in 4pm and out 10am on a Sunday, good for cleaners but not renters. Patio area covered by concrete slabs. As expected in an older setting tree roots push up the slabs and I took a tumble by not seeing the difference in levels. Suggest putting some cones up to make people aware of the hazard, No cable TV, only internet streaming.

The smart lock is for the protection of our guests and home given the lock code expires and is specific to each rental, which is now typical on most short-term rentals. Sorry you stumbled on the patio which is currently being replaced along with the installation of a new central AC/Heat system. While there is no cable TV, you are able to stream numerous channels via the internet. We hope to host you again on your next visit.

Steve has masterfully updated and decorated this wonderful old, charming house. Our stay was most enjoyable. We safely walked the neighborhood with our toddler everyday to Peninsula Park. Groceries, coffee and a cart park were all within walking distance. It was a perfect choice for what we wanted.

A Disappointment
Casa Maggie Mae was a disappointment. We had expected great things after reading the owner’s, descriptions, and many rules. On the positive side, the beds are comfortable and there are plenty of linens. On the negative side, the house itself is rather run down, the stand-alone AC units are very noisy and limited to the bedrooms, the backyard is concrete and monitored by a surveillance camera, and when we arrived, we immediately noticed a strong odor which we attributed to pets and heavy air fresheners. (We notified the owner who assured us that there had not been pets in the house for many years). The location of the house is remote from most Portland destinations, and instead of charming coffee shops and restaurants, it is walking distance from a Popeye’s Chicken, Starbuck’s, and a Safeway. You will need a car. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of our stay was the owner’s behavior after we left. He sent an email informing us of an extra $100 charge to our credit card, accusing us of knocking over the liquid laundry detergent, and not reporting this to him. He refused to respond to us, or to reverse the charge, when we told him we had never used the laundry facilities (in the basement), and certainly would not have left such a mess for him to clean up if we had spilled the laundry detergent, or had even known about the spill. Perhaps the heavy air freshener odor we noticed upon our arrival was from a pre-existing laundry spill. In any event, it is very upsetting to be accused of something that we did not do, without any discussion.

Sorry Casa Maggie Mae did not meet your expectations. The home is a 1923 vintage home and not run down, as evidenced by the many positive guest reviews & pictures. The backyard/patio is as the pictures show and the outdoor camera is for the protection of the home when not occupied. When occupied, it is turned off as explained in the welcome manual. The AC units are newer and portable, of which most make noise...we will be installing central AC however, given Portland has become warmer then in the past. The odor you smelled was likely from the industrial sized laundry detergent spilt in the basement. We have the same professional clean the home each time who stated that there was no spill prior to your stay. The home is in a charming neighborhood and just a short 5-10 minute Uber ride to many popular spots...no need for a car. Regarding the $100 charge, the cost to clean-up and replace the detergent was in excess of $100 so more then fair and which was the first charge we had ever imposed on a guest.

I had a great experience with Casa Maggie Mae as well as the homeowner. The house was close to all of the things we wanted to do for sightseeing and it was very well maintained. Steve’s communication was better than any other VRBO that I have encountered as he checked in with us pre- arrival as well as post-arrival. I was there when there was a hot spell and he made sure to personally call me to let me know how to keep the house cool and about the window AC units. The grocery store is very close as well as coffee shops, etc. I will definitely stay at Casa Maggie Mae again.

Historic property
The host was very attentive (made sure we checked in without problems, stocked the fridge with mineral water and local beer), which was very much appreciated. Two primary concerns tempered our enthusiasm though: 1) we discovered the camera attached to the garage/shed which was facing directly to the bathroom and master bedroom, plus appeared to capture the entire backyard area allocated to the guests. The shades in the bathroom were malfunctioning, serendipitously. The camera and its caption area were not disclosed to us.; 2) when we arrived, the temperature at the house was above 85F, thus we had to use both AC units in the bedrooms all night. While those units might be newly installed, the models are extremely outdated and very loud (very noisy even with ear plugs). With mini-split units being a standard these days, this was completely unexpected and not properly described in the listening. Finally, the house had a strong smell throughout and the shower curtain was covered in mold.

Thank you for your review and stay. The outdoor cameras are for the protection of the home and as mentioned in the house manual, are turned off during guest stays. Also, while one points to the back of the home facing bedroom and bathroom windows, it is far enough away where there is no visibility into the home. The home is over 100 years old and with many older homes, the AC is handled via window or floor units, of which 2 are newer and one will be upgraded. Unfortunately, window AC units make noise as any fan would. The moldy shower curtain and arrival temperature is not our standard and will be immediately addressed with the professional cleaning service. Regarding the odor, we recently learned of the prior renter having a 2 day party of over 80 people at the home which is against our policy and which we believe allowed substance smoking, etc, which could explain the odor. Numerous repeat renters have not complained of an odor and the home is thoroughly cleaned prior to each guest arrival.

A lovely respite
My girlfriend and I stayed at this lovely location for a short spontaneous weekend. The location is ideally suited for walking to several great neighborhoods, quiet, ample parking. The house itself was warm and accommodating with everything in good working order. Beds were extremely comfortable and our host was responsive and available, though we did not require a thing. We deeply appreciated the opportunity to stay in a safe, clean, and beautiful spot for our stolen weekend.

Great place to stay
We had a great time staying in the house. The process to rent the property was seamless and the owner was very responsive and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. The house is one of the cleanest VBRO houses we stayed in. It was nice we had a driveway to part in and the washer/dryer was great to have so we could wash our clothes. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Portland.
