A short drive takes you to Rutland (Britain's smallest county) there you'll find Rutland water, a popular day out. If you like country walks and history, from Robin's nest a walk of about 15 minutes takes you to RAF Wilbarston, an abandoned WW2 airfied where Wellington bombers were based. Much of the airfield still exists and it take a good hour to walk the circuit.
Other footpaths take you to East Carlton country park where events happen throughout the year but even on days when there isn't an event it's still a lovely place to visit.
In season Rockingham castle and grounds is another place well worth a visit and it's 10 minutes by car.
