The Neighborhood: Charltons is a village on the North York Moors National Park, located just two miles from the market town of Guisborough and five miles from the coastal town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
In Guisborough you’ll find a charming, cobbled high street which is lined with shops, cafes and pubs. Visit the English Heritage site of Gisborough Priory which dates back to the 12th century. Here you’ll find the dramatic skeleton of the 14th century church's east and outstanding Gothic architecture.
The idyllic village of Great Ayton is also just a short distance away from Charltons. Perched on the banks of the River Leven and once known for its industries in linen making, tanning, brewing and mining, the village is now a quaint and pretty place to visit. Enjoy an afternoon stroll and an ice-cream from Suggits, the traditional sweet shop which is a firm favourite with the locals.
In Saltburn, you can take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade and you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The long sandy shores are overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts and high cliffs tower in the distance.
Getting Around: The nearest train station to Charltons can be found in Saltburn where there are direct routes to Redcar, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Northallerton, Thirsk, York, Leeds and Manchester.
A couple of bus routes can be found in Charltons. Hop on the 5 for quick access into Guisborough and Middlesbrough, or take a ride on the X93 to visit Whitby and Scarborough.
