Overall good stay.
Overall, I am satisfied with this experience. I’m not picky with hotels as long as it is clean and in a convenient location, and met both criterias. I had the deluxe twin room, and there was a ton of space for 2 people. The problem I have with non-high-end Chinese hotels is that the beds can be rock hard or the “non-smoking” rooms smell like nasty perfume that try to cover up the eminent smoke. This room did not smell like smoke at all, and while the beds weren’t too fluffy, it also wasn’t too hard.
The hotel is in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen, which is conveniently located within walking distance (< 2 miles) of a good choice of malls. I recommend the Coastal City Mall and trying HeyTea. I did not take public transportation, so I cannot speak about that, but there are a lot of taxis that pass by. This is also a very safe area with white-collar workers.
My Chinese is very limited, so the staff were able to speak a little bit of English to help me out during the check-in / check-out process. Hotels.com charged my card, and when I was at the hotel, they asked for a payment in addition to a deposit. I was confused, but then I reread the Hotels.com email, which states that the amount will be paid at the hotel. Apparently the charge from Hotels.com is a booking deposit, which will be refunded. Overall, the check-in, check-out, and luggage storage process were all fast
As with any Chinese hotel, be prepared to pay a deposit and have your passport ready during check-in.
