Overall the stay was very enjoyable. The cottage was exactly what we expected. It was clean, well equipped, and charmingly decorated. It's position on the water's edge allowed for some spectacular views.
There are plenty of places to eat in nearby Mevagissey, which is only a 10 minute walk away. Most of them were open. Due to lockdown regulations, the Rising Sun in Portmellon was only serving drinks outside, and the Snack Shack was selling hot drinks and some essentials like milk and eggs.
The only (small) convenience store we could find was the Mevagissey News (in Mevagissey itself). There are, however, many larger supermarkets in St. Austell, which is not too far away if required.
We would recommend not driving through Mevagissey, as the risk of a traffic jam on Polkirt Hill is just not worth it. We always drove the long way through Gorran Churchtown and then to Pentewan. By the way, the Lost Gardens at Heligan are worth a visit, even if it is just for the tea room.
The Wet Fish in Mevagissey Harbour sells fresh food daily. We tried the mussels (almost 2kg), and they were absolutely beautiful and tasty. Definitely worth a visit.
For those who enjoy a round of golf, must try Carlyon Bay Golf Club. The views, and facilities are exceptional. If you tee off after 15:00, green fees are only £25.00, instead of the normal £55.00. Porthpean Golf Club, although not quite the same standard of golf course as Carlyon Bay, has equally spectacular views, and the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend a round at Porthpean.
