The Richardson Hotel

2/10 Terrible

"This property was described on Expedia as a boutique hotel. It is a large former mental asylum built in 1880. In the lobby there are pictures of patients, artifacts that belonged to the patients, and stories about horrific episodes during their time in the asylum. Many patients were women who were committed by their husbands in the 1920s and 1930s for being “hysterical housewives” and received electroshock treatment as a cure. It is also located in the middle of the Buffalo State campus?? This hotel has a bad energy and it not a place to enjoy a relaxing weekend. We stayed one night. I felt like I was in an episode of “American Horror Story” walking the through the corridors where our room was located. If you enjoy the brutal history of the treatment of the mentally ill or people that were committed against for being hard to deal with or gay this is the hotel for you! Expedia needs to change the description of this hotel on their AP."

"The Edward is a hidden gem in the Elmwood area of Buffalo. The room was large and spacious. It had nice amenities as well, including an area off the lobby for people to gather. Check in was super easy and the staff checked in every day with us to make sure we had everything we needed. There are only 6 parking spots on site, but on street parking was available. Very lovely - would definitely stay there again!"

"We went to Buffalo for my son's wedding. This was the perfect place for us. Very spacious, comfortable couches, new kitchen and bathroom, great little space for shoes and coats and a great porch where we enjoyed coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. There's a little coffee bar and there were cold bottles of water in the fridge waiting for us. We also appreciated how very clean it was. It's near a large park where my son went jogging and it's a short walk on a sidewalked street to dollar general in case you need to get some supplies. Would absolutely stay here again."

"We had an issue with the toilet not working properly and sent the owner a message. The toilet would only flush if it was aggressively plunged, and based on what was coming up there was an obvious clog from before. We DIDN’T HEAR BACK FROM THE OWNER UNTIL AFTER WE LEFT. I would have appreciated knowing when I booked the property that the owner would be unreachable. The space is okay, some things need updating, it’s definitely smaller than it looks and would be tight to have more than 2 people staying there and sharing the kind bed. The blankets on the couch did not smell good, the towels were stained, and the coffee pods for the Keurig were expired. We wouldn’t stay here again."

"Two friends and I stayed for a ladies getaway weekend. Location was perfect for walking to meals and shops. We were impressed with how quiet the area was! On street parking was easy to find. Fairly bare bones, but had everything we needed! "
