Beautiful

Loved being in downtown Tamarindo where the action is and still be in a very safe and comfortable room. I will definitely stay again.

Close to it all

Hotel Mar Ray was a neat little hotel with a great pool area and decent sized rooms very close to beach and all bars, restaurants and mini supermarkets. Enjoyed our stay although it is getting a little dated which we weren’t concerned about.

The service and staff were very nice and helpful for suggestions and booking cars/outings. The hotel was cute and across street from beach access. The downside for our family was the noise/sound from the local clubs - it was very loud until late on weekends but a bit better on weekdays.

Hotel Mar Rey is in a great location. Close to beach, restaurants and bars and shopping. The pool and surroundings are beautiful. Hacienda style. The ranch kitchen by the pool was great. You could buy groceries and cook them on site. Andrey and staff were extremely helpful.

An absolutely amazing stay at Mar Rey! Unforgettable time :) The owners and staff are so welcoming, helpful and charming....you feel right at home before you even arrive on site because they ensure that your entire journey goes splendidly well. I could not have picked a better hotel....I am definitely returning there, but plan to bring my entire family with me next time! :)

Nice place, friendly and helpful staff. The dogs are also just as friendly, polite, well trained, affectionate yet controlled, do not make disruptive noises like barking, whining or anything like that, and provide a sweet welcoming upon the arrival of guests (as far as my experience went as well as what I witnessed). Would stay again

We stayed for seven days at this lovely hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful in booking transport to and from airport and our sunset cruise. We had a king bed that was comfortable. The hotel is right in the center of the action and across the street from the beach. The pool area was very cute, and the water was refreshing from the sun. It can get very noisy at night but a couple of more of margaritas helped to drown out the noise. Overall would recommend staying here.

Very enjoyable, excellent location

The hotel is affordable, comfortable and in a prime location in Tamarindo. You can walk to the beach and all of the shops and restaurants in the area within minutes. This isn’t a resort, but has everything you need if you enjoy spending the majority of your time enjoying the beach, town, culture, and being more independent than a resort setting. The pool is a very nice spot to come back to and is a lovely setting, also has an outdoor cooking area if you want to prepare some of your own meals. They will also help you book tours/experiences as well if you aren’t as independent when traveling internationally. Staff were very kind and felt like good friends by the time we left!

Would stay again!

Lovely hotel, perfect location and very kind staff. The hotel has 2 dogs, one big and small who are super cute, and are friendly but will generally ignore you and not be in your face if you don't want them to be. The pool had a few leaves/ bugs floating around and could be skimmed more often, but it was still perfectly fine to swim in.

This is a perfectly placed property right at the heart of all the action. Great access to the beach and restaurants as well as nightlife. Staff was great. Wished the room was bigger and had facecloths.

I like the pool, location, and cleanliness. The owners and their family live in the hotel. All their dogs are on site and unrestrained. They bark and awake the guests at night and in the mornings, early. My complaints to the owner were met with shrugs. Sleeping is a problem here. Even time by the delightful pool is disturbed. We stayed on the beach our last few days to get away from the constant barking. It was not like this last year. I love dogs, but I love my sleep and quiet on vacation. I will stay elsewhere when I return to Tamarindo in the future.

We had trouble sleeping due to noise from discos and closeness to main road. Very loud until 4am .. The property was left felt and clean and had great pool. Minutes to the beach.

Great location for access to the beach, dining, shops, banks, tour operators, and all the action. I also loved the large balcony with view of the pool, private courtyard like setting, and outdoor kitchen. the rooms are simple and have all the basics plus small fridge and small microwave. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Note: The downtown area of Tamarindo is concentrated around one main road and a couple side streets. The entire area can be a bit noisy in the evening until midnight due to the music at open bars, motorcycles, and other motorists. Only the outskirts of the town seemed to be protected from this. It’s quite lively! For in-town options this hotel seemed to be one of the best.

Easy fixed needed

Great location has the potential to be fantastic but fell short in many areas. The hotel has no ice. Really? Coffee maker on top of the microwave, no coffee, filters, cups or condiments. Sign over the coffee maker says Microwave is only to be used to reheat coffee and if it used for food that you will be charged $50!! Really? Towel are thin and horrible.
