  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

  • The Closed Canyon hike in Big Bend Ranch State Park was completely deserted when we went on a Tuesday in April. We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Great location for hiking in Big Bend NP. Easy to find, friendly staff, clean rooms. Breakfast buffet was great! We found the beds a little too firm for our taste and had some trouble figuring out how to use streaming service on the tv, but everything else was perfect.

Room was great! Shower was nice after a long day at the park and check in / checkout was simple. Would recommend it’s a good distance from Big Bend / town. Only wish was that there was 4 normal pillows other than that was awesome

This was such a cute place to stay. Very nostalgic of old motels when they were in their heyday. Nice and clean, very quiet. There was a beautiful outside area to sit and watch the sunset. Overall great stay, and we would stay again.

Great place to stay

Located right on the split to big bend national park and to Terlingua center with the starlight theatre, the location was phenomenal and the rooms were clean and well cared for. The bathrooms were a little dated in our room but still got the job done no problem. Linens were clean, beds pretty comfortable too. The staff were friendly and approachable during check in. All in all we would definitely stay here again .

Great unique place to stay with a friendly staff.

This was a really nice motel outside of Big Bend National Park. The staff was really nice and friendly. The rooms were nice, clean and unique.
