As you drive towards the hotel, it really has the wow factor; a castle on the edge of a cliff next to the Atlantic Ocean. As you get closer you realise that its run down and hasn't been maintained externally for a number of years. Inside, you enter into the Great Hall, and again wow, a really lovely space on the ground floor with huge fireplaces and sweeping staircases. The first person we saw when when we entered the hotel was the owner, John Mappin, as guests in his establishment, It would have been great if he had welcomed us and asked us about our journey; instead, he simply dismissed us as if we were invading his space. The next person we met was the hotel Receptionist. Again, there was no welcome, just a perplexed look as we had arrived after a 5 hour journey at 1.50, when check-in opened at 2. We were told we were unable to check-in as the rooms were not ready, and told to go for a walk or a drive for a while - not even shown to the bar or longue to relax. When we finally got our key, we were located on the second floor, as we entered the room (which cost £250 per night) we were welcomed by a large space cluttered with mis-matching, old furniture; the curtains were at least 30 years old and the curtain rail was hanging off the wall. Despite other reviews saying that the hotel decor was 'quirky' or 'shabby-chic', it isn't - it is simply shabby. £250pn can be so better spent with some research, the hotel is massively under-invested despite being at full capacity a lot.

We were only able to book a Standard room, but it was small, which would be OK, but the bathroom was like an airplane toilet with virtually no room to move in. Obviously as an old building that in the past had hallway bathrooms that we shared, this was a poor afterthought to upgrade the room to be able to ma t as an en suite bathroom.

The bathroom connected to our room was small considering the price and differed from the shown photos, possibly unlucky with the room given and the situation might be better in other rooms. However, the area and the room were nice. The lobby had strange smell, mostly likely due to old age of the property.

This property is in a stunning location but do be very careful what room you book. We had a four poster room with sea view so quite above a standard room and unfortunately the bathroom in this room was more like a caravan shower and toilet although probably even worse and smaller! as I have stayed in caravans and seen better bathrooms!! It was a massive let down.. other people did experience the same and you could upgrade for a hefty price to have a room with a proper en-suite. The bed itself was really creaky and the pillows soft and duvet too thick but that bit is personal preference. A lot of people checked out early because of the bathroom issue, I guess a lot of the room have these so called “en-suites..” I don’t expect to pay for a four poster bedroom which was quite big itself to then be expected to use this so called bathroom. I wouldn’t stay here again and you could stay somewhere much better with similar views.

The staff at Camelot Castle were amazing and very helpful , especially with my two Young grandsons. The hotel rooms were very clean however the rooms we stayed in are in need of refurbishment and the pod bathrooms are tiny and difficult to use. We did have a lovely holiday but if we stayed again we would request rooms with proper bathroom facilities.

Camelot Castle Hotel is a fantastic place to see and even better to stay. We had a lovely room overlooking the sea, with views extending along the coast and over to the ruins of Camelot Castle. the staff are excellent, and as we were leaving, we got the chance to meet Ted, the wonderful artist who lives and paints at the Castle. Thank you, Ted, for showing us around your studio and enlightening me on your art. Fantastic, Thanks again, Dave Hill

We absolutely loved our stay here at the Castle hotel. Beautiful hotel with such amazing staff that put you at ease even with all the grandure they made us feel so welcome and relaxed like we had known them for years. Beautiful three course meal by candlelight in a stunning dining room with silver service and a very charming Gentleman who entertained us all after dinner with his talent playing a beautiful big Harp and Grand piano while we enjoyed a cocktail. We will definitely be going back. Thank you so much to all the staff especially the lovely young lady in the bar who even though the Internet went down she continued to service everyone writing down by hand everyone's orders .

Can't wait to come back to see you all again

Such a wonderful stay, lovely room, very enchanting hotel with a gorgeous setting, food menu was fine but not overly exciting, or fully mouth watering, lacking the wow, but no chips is always a good sign. Room was great, set up well, very clean, hot sink tap sounded like something out the house of horrors, but that’s down to historic pipes, room nearby had a whale snoring away in it all night and then it sounded like the whale was coughing up bones all morning, so again not the hotel, just luck of the draw North tower junior suite has incredible views, and is a very pleasant place to spend time. On the first evening meal, a lovely chap approached to introduce himself as one of the owners, was a quick chat but very nice to

Reasonably priced single bed stay for 2 nights. Beautiful and historic building. Features of a stately home. The view over the cliffs to the sea was amazing. A single room included a toilet & shower plastic cubicle that was too small for me and I suggest for many adults. The door to the cubicle had to be opened to enable you to sit down on the toilet, before closing again. The lock on the door was a keyed 'night lock', which offers very little security whether you are in the room or elsewhere. Polite and welcoming staff. Comfortable and peaceful bar, sitting areas and restaurant. Lovely coffee. Breakfast included many choices of quality food. The evening menu was traditional and of a very good quality. There was also a Pizza menu until 9pm. I would recommend this hotel but don't expect a modern hotel experience but maybe, that is the point.
