Hotel Gracery Shinjuku
2/10 Terrible
"Not family-friendly — avoid if you have children We stayed at Hotel Gracery Shinjuku briefly before catching our flight home, and it was honestly the low point of an otherwise incredible Japan trip. We booked specifically because our 9-year-old is a huge Godzilla fan and we wanted to surprise him with the famous Godzilla head on the building. Sweet idea in theory, but the reality of the location completely overshadowed it. The hotel sits right in the middle of Kabukicho, which means you’re surrounded by drunks, street prostitution, and genuinely filthy streets (huge rodents roaming around, beer bottles and cigarette butts everywhere) Not what you want when you’re traveling with young children. It felt unsafe and uncomfortable just walking around the area. As for the room itself — it felt like a run-down motel. Nothing about it justified the price or the Shinjuku address. It was a sharp and disappointing contrast to the rest of our accommodations throughout Japan. The only reason this doesn’t affect our overall trip memory is because we were there for just a few hours. If we had stayed longer it would have been a much bigger problem. Save yourself the stress and book somewhere in a cleaner, calmer neighborhood."

"This is the second time we stayed at this hotel, very convenient for everything and the hotel staff very nice."

Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Tokyo-ariake
6/10 Okay
"It was a very independent check in and check out process which is Greta if you’re tired of talking to people, but I like a personable touch at my hotels so I missed that aspect. I would’ve liked someone to walk me through the ins and outs of the hotel. It was also so hard to find the entrance form outside taxi drivers didn’t know where to drop you either. More signage outside would do good. There weren’t many amenities compared to a lot of other cheaper hotels I stayed at this trip and it’s pretty out of the way of most things in tokyo. Overall pleasant! Just wish there were a few personal touches and more clearly outlined rules and signs !"

Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo
10/10 Excellent
"We had a Premium Grand room, which came with access to 45th floor lounge, and that made the difference, with great views over Tokyo at breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails/snacks hours - including sunsets. Worth the extra money. Hotel location is very good for transport, shops, bars and restaurants (but not TOO close)"
