The house is gorgeous, clean, well stocked w/ everything you need. Many older criticisms from reviews have been addressed/upgraded. The issues we had relate to this place being listed as pet friendly and there is a lack of communication on the driveway being a problem for many vehicles. As far as pet friendly, this house has strict rules that you only find out about after booking & payment. Dogs having to be crated when you are out is not something I would expect in a pet friendly rental (with no exceptions, even with our 13lb, hypo allergenic toy poodle). The driveway was a huge issue and was not in any condition for a vehicle to safely travel to the house. Check in is late at 5pm, and in the winter that is already dark. I asked Chris just before 4pm if we could get into the house earlier. He was very responsive and let us know we could. He said the driveway was plowed earlier in the day and we should use a low gear and maintain speed around the bend. 4WD Low in our Jeep and rounding the bend, wheels start spinning on the ice, and then we slid backwards a good 25 feet completely out of control until Thankfully the snow bank stopped us from sliding off the 20 foot or more drop down to the road below. It was terrifying!
Left Jeep in the snow bank, called Chris and he tells me all the other cars that have problems just call Tiple A. My Initial reaction is what do you mean ALL the other cars that have problems and why wasn’t I warned that some cars have problems in the driveway. But still I asked for a tow truck company and he did call the plow company that maintains the driveway. Someone came right away. That guy tells us this isn’t the worst he has seen here and a lot of cars have trouble and it’s always at the bend. He said he would come back to move the car in daylight. The road behind the Jeep was sanded in the morning, and the guy came back and moved the car for us. We were relieved to have the Jeep safely parked at the bottom of the road for the rest of our trip, as neither of us were willing to attempt that driveway again. I understand it’s winter and it’s the Adirondacks, and that it snowed on our arrival day, but the lack of communication on a known issue was infuriating. Renters unfamiliar with the property should know that if not freshly sanded, park at the base of the driveway. We lost the entire morning and part of the afternoon on our already purchased lift tickets for Gore waiting for the Jeep to be moved from the snow bank.
