On a positive note the hotel was exceptionally clean.
The negatives were as follows:
The Room was advertised as a Garden Room. In every other hotel I have ever visited this has meant a room over looking the hotel garden to the side or rear. This room over looked 'a green' which had an extremely busy road between it and the hotel. With single glazed windows the noise in the bedroom was horrendous and impossible to sleep.
Even though 5 degrees outside and with no radiator on, the room was unbearably hot and you could not open the window because of the traffic noise.
Although room recently painted, the furniture was tired, dated and the bed matresses need urgent replacement. It was so soft you could feel each spring.
The toilet did not flush properly and the taps constantly dripped.
Parking charges apply between 9-6 at £2 per hour adding a further expense to your stay.
There seemed to be an acute shortage of staff. Reception often unmanned, only one member of staff to greet and serve at tables at breakfast.
How Visit England awarded the Hotel a best breakfast award is beyond imagination. I chose bacon, sausage and mushroom. I was served one sausage, five small button mushrooms and a shrunken, small, dried out inedible piece of bacon. A member of the kitchen staff walked through to reception in a short, white chefs coat that was filthy. Not a gleaming white coat with recent stains of cooking which hopefully he did not do.
Never again at this hotel.
