“A really old-fashioned Japanese onsen experience like nothing else. We ate in the Japanese restaurant one night and French the other evening. The food was fantastic. Rooms were comfortable but old fashioned. I would highly recommend the room with a private onsen - we saw tanuke (Japanese raccoon dogs) approach whilst we were bathing which was a really special experience. We hiked to the ridge (5 hours return) through a beautiful forest.”

“We had an excellent 2 night stay at Tamaya. We were collected and dropped off at Bessho Onsen train Station. All staff were wonderfully helpful despite our lack of Japanese language. The meals were fantastic and varied (different meals for breakfast and dinner each day). Our room was very comfortable with Western beds and a seating area. We spent a day exploring temples in the area- note that very few shops, cafes or restaurants were open on a Monday.”
